Warning: Spoilers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Below!Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings many fantastical characters from the games to life in its big-screen adventure. In Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a duo of thieves named Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine) and Holga Kilgore (Michelle Rodriguez) escape from prison to embark on a mission to retrieve a supernatural relic known as resurrection tablet. When the duplicitous Lord of Neverwinter Forge Fitzwilliam (Hugh Grant) hatches an evil plot with the sorceress Sonfina (Daisy Head), Edgin, Holga, and their allies must join forces to stop them and rescue Edgin’s daughter Kira (Chloe Coleman).

Based on the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, the very well-received Honor Among Thieves is full of the high adventure and fantasy elements that made its namesake so popular. While it introduces many original characters and concepts to its story, Honor Among Thieves also includes many creatures that play significant roles in the Dungeons & Dragons games into its story. 9 Trolls

Trolls are a staple of Dungeons & Dragons, and one appears early on in Honor Among Thieves as a guard in Edgin and Holga’s prison cell. Unfortunately, it does not end well for the troll guard in question, with Holga unleashing her fighting skills against him. Though there are not many trolls to be seen in Honor Among Thieves, the one present in the opening of the movie nonetheless shows their importance to the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

8 Aarakocra

The winged, humanoid bird creatures of Dungeons & Dragons known are known as Aarakocra, and typically reside in mountainous areas. In Honor Among Thieves, one is also employed as a prison guard overseeing Edgin and Holga’s captivity, with the two thieves using the Aarakocra to fly out of a nearby window and escape. In the ending of Honor Among Thieves, Forge also tries the same tactic in the movie’s ending after being imprisoned himself, but runs both of them into a wall after the window has been sealed.

7 Druids

Honor Among Thieves shape-shifting character of Doric (Sophia Lillis) is the movie’s most prominent example of a druid. In Dungeons & Dragons, druids are beings capable of shape-shifting into animal creatures. Doric’s shape-shifting druid powers see her turn into a wide range of animals in Honor Among Thieves, including rats, snakes, and other animals. Doric’s shape-shifting abilities as a Druid are one of the most heavily utilized powers seen in Honor Among Thieves, with Doric morphing into an assortment of different animals in the movie’s one-shot chase scene in particular.

Among the most classic characters in any fantasy setting, elves are also featured significantly in Dungeons & Dragons. In the Dungeons & Dragons games, elves are frequently wielders of magic and different kinds of weaponry, and also have very extended lifespans of several centuries. Elves appear in Home Among Thieves when the heroes visit an elf village, with Holga meeting her one-time love (played by Bradley Cooper). Later in the movie, more elves are seen after victory over Sonfina as the kingdom of Neverwinter celebrates and the old Lord is reinstated

Dungeons & Dragons has also introduced numerous kinds of dragons into its mythos, typically designating them by color. This means that Red, Blue, Black, Green, and White Dragons each have different power sets and backstories, as do dragons of other color designations.

Dragons appear at numerous points in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, with some seen during a flashback to a battle scene for the Helm of Disjunction. Later, a more robust dragon that has devoured others of its kind is seen when the group tries to cross through a subterranean chamber, with the heroes just barely escaping their dragon pursuers.

4 Orcs

Orcs are also a major part of Dungeons & Dragons and are also seen in other fantasy stories like the Lord of the Rings series. Orcs are often antagonistic characters in the Dungeons & Dragons mythos, with numerous subsets of Orcs existing such as Mountain Orcs, Grey Orcs, Orogs, and others. In contrast to elves, Orcs also have much shorter lifespans, only typically living for 40 to 45 years. A few orcs are seen early in Honor Among Thieves, and while they do not have a large role in the movie, they nonetheless bring more creatures from the Dungeons & Dragons games to the big-screen.

3 Mimic

Honor Among Thieves also includes in the famed mimic in its roster of fantastical creatures from the Dungeons & Dragons games. A mimic is a creature that can take on the likeness of inanimate objects to ensnare its prey. Typically, mimics are known to disguise themselves in the form of chests, enabling them to get hold of unsuspecting humans as they reach in. A mimic is seen in Honor Among Thieves trying to bite off Holga’s arm as she opens it up, though she fortunately escapes just in time.

2 Gelatinous Cube

Gelatinous cubes are some of the more bizarre monsters seen in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, being semi-transparent cubes that trap their prey within a gelatin-like structure to dissolve them down to nothing. A Gelatinous cube plays a big role in Honor Among Thieves‘s battle in the arena maze, pulling one unfortunate competitor into his doom. As a last-ditch escape attempt, Doric takes her fellow heroes through the gelatinous cube, before shape-sifting into a snake to slither out, and pulling them all out before they can be dissolved.

1 Owlbear

Owlbears are another of the creatures unique to the Dungeons & Dragons universe, and are essentially what they sound like as an owl-bear hybrid creature. In Honor Among Thieves, Doric uses her shape-shifting abilities to transform herself into an Owlbear at several points in the movie. Doric also morphs into an Owlbear during the group’s climactic battle with Sofina, defeating the evil sorceress for good.

The Dungeons & Dragons characters seen in Honor Among Thieves are far from the only fantastical creatures from the games to appear in the movie. With a vast universe and mythos established in the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing games, there are innumerable other fantastical creatures, species, and characters that could also be adapted to the big screen the next Dungeons & Dragons movie.
