9-1-1 season 7 is due after surviving cancelation by FOX and finding a new home on ABC, and excitement is already high for the show’s triumphant return. Debuting on FOX in 2018, 9-1-1 seasons 1-6 drew a dedicated following thanks to its place as one of the most hi-octane and action-packed procedurals on TV. Season 7 is on the way, although it will doubtless shake up the show for its debut at ABC.

Starring the legendary Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Six Feet Under star Peter Krause, 9-1-1 follows LA first responders and dispatchers. FOX chose to cancel 9-1-1 before season 7 could arrive, but the show was picked up by ABC in early 2023. With season 7 of 9-1-1 still due there’s plenty of speculation among viewers on what awaits when Athena, Captain Bobby Nash, Buck, Maddie, and the rest of the 118 first responders return.

Despite being an episode procedural, there are still several overarching plots that season 7 will pick up from the ending of 9-1-1 season 6. Chimney and Maddie are due to wed, which will likely be a big season 7 plot, as will Hen and Karen’s growing family. The brief teaser trailer released in December 2023 showed a harrowing cruise ship disaster which will likely be one of the biggest emergencies that the crew will face in season 7.

ABC has released a trailer for the upcoming seventh season of 9-1-1, and though it is light on details, it is no less powerful as a teaser. In the half-minute clip, a cruise ship is rocked by a powerful explosion before it eventually capsizes. A cell phone is seen sinking into the ocean which simply reads “9-1-1”. The seventh season might have some of the biggest emergencies yet, especially as ABC will want to set the tone for its first outing with the popular show.
