8 Star Wars Characters Who Should Have Their Own Disney Plus TV Show

8 Star Wars Characters Who Should Have Their Own Disney Plus TV Show

Star Wars has a plethora of interesting characters who haven’t had their time to shine, but there are a select few who deserve their own shows. With the Star Wars galaxy rapidly expanding and more and more interesting stories being told onscreen, some characters are still being left in the dust. Some minor characters, or even main characters, haven’t had their backstories fully flushed out – but their origins are likely compelling, and their stories are worthy of telling.

With media juggernauts such as Marvel giving their characters spin-off shows, it’s hard to imagine why Star Wars can’t do the same. While not every character deserves their own show, some would help fill Star Wars plot holes, further enrich the canon, or give additional context to some plot points that haven’t been fully explained. The Skywalker saga focused so much on the Jedi and the stories of one family, so expanding that to include more people from the galaxy is an interesting step to take, especially as Star Wars’ upcoming movies seem to be moving away from the stories told in the Skywalker saga. Here are eight characters who should get their own Star Wars show.

8 Star Wars Should Explore A Young Yoda

First Appeared: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Jedi Grandmaster Yoda is one of the oldest beings in all of Star Wars; yet, despite his many appearances, there’s little known about his Jedi upbringing and origin. Yoda’s species still doesn’t even have a name. Audiences know that Yoda was about 900 years old when he died and had been training Jedi for about 800 years, but it would be interesting to see Yoda’s journey of coming into his own as a Jedi. As someone who has trained generations of Jedi, it would be cool to see him find his way as a teacher. This could be an interesting storyline to pursue in something like Tales of the Jedi season 2.

7 Poe Dameron’s Origins Informs His Role In The Resistance

First Appeared: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Poe Dameron Escaping in a TIE Fighter in The Force Awakens

Poe Dameron is one of the best characters from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, made evident by Oscar Isaac’s amazing portrayal. The character has been a rebel since the very beginning, with both of his parents being former members of the Rebel Alliance. Poe’s early life has been explored in Star Wars comics, but it would be interesting to see those stories make their way to the screen. With Poe possibly returning in Rey Skywalker’s New Jedi Order movie, Poe’s origin of being born and raised on Yavin IV should be explored. There are likely many rebel stories to tell, which could inform how he became the rebel audiences know and love.

6 Tala Durith Was A Hero Long Before She Met Obi-Wan Kenobi

First Appeared: Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)

tala obi-wan kenobi

Tala Durith was introduced in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 as a rebel Imperial officer, who was secretly helping Jedi escape via The Path. She became a vital ally to Obi-Wan Kenobi and helped him and a young Leia Organa escape Darth Vader. Tala was a very interesting character who died before audiences could really get to know her; however, exploring her origins as an Imperial officer turned rebel would be fascinating. A limited Disney+ series could expand on some of Tala’s stories and show the development of The Path. Additionally, other Star Wars characters such Jedi Quinlan Vos could appear as people who helped establish The Path.

5 Kanan Jarrus & Hera Syndulla’s Rebel Origins May Inform Their Son’s Future

First Appeared: Star Wars Rebels (2014)

Kanan Jarrus’ and Hera Syndulla’s first meeting and adventures together are detailed in the canon novel A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller, which was one of the first books that debuted after Disney purchased Lucasfilm and made most Star Wars novels part of the Legends collection. While the novel concludes with Kanan and Hera deciding to stay together on the Ghost, it’s unclear what happens to them between then and the beginning of Star Wars Rebels. Having an extension of the two character’s stories, such as where and when the pair meet Zeb Orrelios and Sabine Wren, would be interesting to see, either in animation or live-action.

4 Bail Organa Was A Rebel From The Beginning

First Appeared: Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)

Bail Organa looking serious in front of a dark background.

Bail Organa is best known as the rebellious senator from Alderaan, and as the adoptive father of Princess Leia Organa; however, Bail’s rebel origins go much further back than that. As a Senator during the Clone Wars, Organa allied with other Senators such as Mon Mothma and Padmé Amidala, who are now seen as the true founders of the Rebel Alliance. Bail also had many acts of rebellion during the prequel trilogy, even helping Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi escape after the fall of the Jedi.

Additionally, soon after that, Bail instantly started making quiet connections on his homeworld Alderaan to recruit rebels. Bail also helped Ahsoka Tano about one year after the fall of the Republic to evacuate the moon of Raada and officially recruited her to the rebellion. There are many instances of Bail Organa’s heroism and acts of rebellion, and it would be interesting to see some of these played out on screen in live-action. Jimmy Smits is a wonderful actor to portray Bail Organa and has returned to the franchise over and over again, so seeing him on screen again would be a joy.

3 Ezra Bridger’s Years On Peridea & His Adjustment Back With Hera Syndulla

First Appeared: Star Wars Rebels (2014)

Ezra Bridger was recently found on the planet Peridea after being stranded there for about nine years following the Star Wars Rebels series finale, in which he and Grand Admiral Thrawn were taken away from Lothal by purrgil. While Ahsoka season 2 will likely follow a stranded Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, getting more information about Ezra‘s experiences during his exile would be interesting. Seeing how he adapted to living in a new galaxy on a new planet, as well as his struggles trying to avoid being killed by Thrawn and the Nightsisters, could speak even more to his character development.

This could also give more context to what Thrawn is planning now that he is back in the main Star Wars galaxy. Additionally, looking into how Ezra is adjusting to being back with his found family, more specifically Hera Syndulla, would be interesting to explore. Since Ezra originated as an animated character, it’s possible that this storyline could be explored in animation, possibly Tales of the Jedi season 2. This could also tease whether or not Ezra will be the one to train Jacen Syndulla in the ways of the Jedi.

2 Exploring Palpatine’s Youth Can Show How He Became Such A Powerful Sith Lord

First Appeared: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

So much of the Skywalker saga revolves around Sheev Palpatine, his rise to power, and his ability as a Sith Lord; however, not much of his origins have been seen. In fact, it would be interesting to see Palpatine train under his master, Darth Plagueis. There is a trend of showing the origins of villains in media today, so it would be interesting to see how Palpatine’s fall to the dark side and his rise as a powerful Sith Lord. Additionally, it would be interesting to see how Palpatine’s plan for taking over the galaxy took shape, and who, or what, helped him realize his vision.

1 Telling Zeb Orrelios’ New Republic Story Can Fix A Canceled Star Wars Show

First Appeared: Star Wars Rebels (2014)

Zeb Orrelios in The Mandalorian

Zeb Orrelios was strangely missing from Ahsoka season 1; however, the former Lasat Honor Guard did appear in live-action in The Mandalorian season 3 where it was revealed he was a New Republic pilot. It’s also been revealed that Zeb now trains New Republic recruits. Showing this storyline would also help replace the canceled Star Wars Disney+ TV show Rangers of the New Republic, as many storylines from that canceled show have made their way into other shows like The Mandalorian. This would give Star Wars more time to tell the story they wanted to, but also show a different side of the New Republic.
