8 Hilarious References To The Sims Margot Robbie’s Movie Must Include

Margot Robbie is set to produce a movie based on The Sims, which will need to include some references fans of the game will immediately connect with. Coming off the success of the Barbie movie, Robbie’s track record for brilliant and insightful movies is outstanding. Having already tapped into the market of movies based on incredibly pivotal childhood memories, Robbie is now moving forward with another project that could reach a whole new audience.

The first Sims game was SimCity, released in 1989. However, the mainline games that are so familiar and iconic first came out in 2000. Since then, the franchise has continued to release new versions of the game, with dozens of creative packs and expansions to improve the user experience and build out the world of The Sims. But over the last 25 years, several parts of the game have become universally familiar to anyone who has owned or played the game, and the new movie needs to include these details to connect with the players.

The “Motherlode” Cheat Code

The Sims is a virtual life simulator game, and easily the most famous of its kind. Players must work to earn money, but sometimes, money gets tight, and that would be the end of the fun if it weren’t for a universally known cheat code. Whenever players run out of money, the “motherlode” cheat code can be input to immediately add 50,000 simoleons in the game. However, if the situation doesn’t require that much money, “rosebud” can be used for a quick §1,000.

Characters Not Reacting To Fire

Or Other Terrible Disasters

While there is an auto mode that can be used to keep Sims doing the basics for a while, the characters rely on the player for just about everything. Occasionally, an accident could happen which sees a Sim’s house begin to catch fire. For any normal human, the immediate response would be to get up and run away from the fire. However, Sims don’t always make those kinds of connections, and the house could be burning down around them before they realize something is not quite right.

Fan Casting The Movie Version Of The Sims

If someone decided to turn The Sims into a film, some actors would be exceptionally suitable for the parts of favorite characters from the games.

In these moments, it’s down to the player to get their Sims out of danger. Or, if players are trying to trigger different death animations, they might just leave them to burn… This is also a common practice for players who are hoping to see all the funny little Easter eggs included in the game.

WooHoo

Anywhere, Like The Dumpster

Another animation that Sims players often try to trigger is the WooHoo sequence. “WooHoo” is essentially the game’s equivalent of two Sims getting romantic and intimate. In the first Sims game, the places where WooHoo could happen were fairly basic. However, in later games, the option to get intimate in many other locations opened up a lot (via GameRant). Since forming relationships is a pivotal part of the games, and WooHoo is one of the highest actions that can be unlocked with other characters, it makes sense to include it in the movie, censored, of course.

Ladders Disappearing From The Pool

Sims Can’t Climb Without Ladders

As mentioned above, many players would find different ways to unlock death scenes for the Sims, but one thing that appears to be almost universal was creating a pool, having a Sim get in and start swimming, and then deleting the ladder. If any person were in a pool with no ladder, the first thought would be to climb out, but this thought doesn’t ever enter a Sims mind. Going into construction mode and removing the ladder is essentially a death sentence, as the Sim will not eat, sleep, or ever climb out of the ladderless pool.

Sim Customization

And Spending Hours There

Sims 4 Cottage Living Create Sim New Items Customization

A big part of the fun when it comes to The Sims is just how customizable and flexible the game can be. Every new player needs to spend some time in the character builder menu, carefully selecting the perfect details for their Sim. From the hair to the body shape, and even the clothes they will wear in different scenarios, perfecting the character is vital. Any movie based on The Sims should definitely include something to reference the Sims character builder and the customization of the characters.

Sims Not Getting Basic Needs Met

Or They Will Make A Mess

A Sim Playing The Sims On Computer

Even when a Sim is not in the ladderless pool they still need guidance to get their needs met. When a Sim gets hungry, they need to eat food, or they will starve. If they need the toilet, players need to select the toilet and instruct the sim to interact with it, or they will make a mess in the middle of whatever room they are standing in. If they need sleep, they need to be sent to bed, or else they will collapse wherever they stand.

The road to figuring all of these things out is often laden with trial and error. So, for new players to the game, or people who simply slip in some way, the Sims will likely run into one or more of these problems, which makes it a perfect universal thing to include in a movie. And seeing a sim slouched on the ground after dropping from utter exhaustion can be kind of funny.

2
Accidentally Ruining A Relationship

Spam Clicking The Same Action

When trying to build relationships with other Sims, it’s important to carefully select the right interaction to get on their good side. The game provides dozens of options for what to talk about, and as they’ve friendship grows, more options open up. However, not every player sits patiently waiting to read each bubble every time they want to do an action, and it can be common for players to simply spam the same button repeatedly to get closer faster.

The only problem is, when new options open up, and a player keeps clicking on a new bubble that may be offensive, rude, or boring, they can accidentally ruin friendships and other relationships quickly. Showing this kind of interaction could be hilarious depending on how the movie introduces connections between players and their Sims. Trying to speedrun relationships, only to have it blow up and backfire.

Placing Food On The Floor

Other Things Are More Important

the sims plates on floors

If there is no adequate table or worktop space in a Sims home, a Sim is likely to have plates placed in all sorts of odd spots on the floor. Until the Sim is told to pick a plate up and clean it, the plate will be left in the most inconvenient spot close to the Sim. This is obviously not normal human behavior, but The Sims movie could include a scene where a Sim gets distracted and places their plate on the floor, where it will remain for some time.
