Sofia Carson, singer, actress, and former Disney Channel star, has made her way back to Netflix. The actress stars as Cassie Salazar in Purple Hearts, Netflix’s newest romance drama. Sofia stars alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who plays U.S. Marine Luke Morrow.

Carson started her career with Disney, starring in the DCOM trilogy, Descendants. Since then, she has been working as a singer, while still dipping her toes in the acting pool. Sofia Carson puts her music training to use, as she plays main lead Cassie. While the film has been poorly received by critics, the heartfelt romance really showcases Carson’s talents both as an actress and as a singer. Her original music makes it into the film, both as part of the soundtrack and as the in-movie character’s music. Purple Hearts is a marriage for convenience story that delivers a lot of emotional punches and while critics gave it a low score, audiences gave it more favourable reviews, leading to a 77% audience score.

Feel The Beat is a dance comedy-drama on Netflix. It follows aspiring dancer, April who keeps failing at achieving Broadway stardom, so in her defeat she travels back to her countryside hometown. There she is recruited to teach a bunch of misfit kids to dance, and learns to fall back in love with the art.

While not comparable to the great dance movies in cinema history, Feel The Beat is perfect for Sofia Carson as she’s been professionally trained in dance from a young age. It’s a classic story of a city girl coming back to the countryside, learning the life of a small town, and Carson does a great job of being a fish out of water. In this female-led movie, Carson really shines as the main lead, showing her many talents.

Descendants 2 is the second installment in the Disney Channel villains franchise. The sequel follows Mal as she runs away to the Isle of the lost, where some of the greatest Disney villains live. Struggling to deal with royal life, she hides away, but without her knowledge, King Ben follows her and finds himself in deep trouble.

Sofia Cartson reprised her role as Evie in the sequel. Here she has her own leading storyline, and she really takes charge of the screen during her scenes. Her importance in this movie has grown and Carson makes sure to show that character development. The songs in this movie also become catchier, all while showing off some new dance moves.

With the cute and wholesome romances in Disney Channel movies, Carson did a great job at keeping it all light and fresh. She got to shine in some songs as well, showing her growth from the first movie. Carson also had a chance to show more range in her acting, with some emotional punches thrown into the storyline.

Sofia Carson plays the role of Lola, one of the babysitters in the movie. Her character is free-spirited and passionate, and it really shows as Carson has fun with the role. It’s a little different from her other work, as she doesn’t rely on her singing or dancing ability, so fans can really enjoy her solely as an actress.

Sofia Carson plays one of the main leads, Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen. She plays a very feminine character, with a love for clothes and boys, but she manages to show herself as a dimensional character. As Carson’s first movie, she does a great job keeping up with the intense choreography and singing. She gives that expressive charm that is needed for a Disney movie, making Evie a likable character.

Sofia Carson voices the character Pipp Petals. It’s Carson’s first attempt at voice acting, and she does a great job. Her experience working in children’s films previously helps her to translate that same energy in voice only. Carson has fun with the role, letting herself free of all seriousness, that is needed for such a franchise like My Little Pony.

While the show gained a tremendous about of praise, there was unfortunately not enough viewership to keep the show alive.
