Todd Stashwick gives a realistic answer about the chances of Star Trek: Picard‘s proposed continuation, Star Trek: Legacy, happening after Paramount is sold Skydance. On July 8th, Paramount Global announced a merger with Skydance Media and RedBird Capital. Paramount’s new leadership team will be headed up by David Ellison, who becomes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the new Paramount. While it’s too soon to know what this merger means for Star Trek, which is owned by Paramount, Ellison was executive producer of Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond.
During Todd Stashwick’s Instagram Live chat with artist Jenny R. Johnson, Screen Rant‘s Rob Keyes asked Stashwick if he thinks there is a real chance of Star Trek: Legacy happening after the Paramount/Skydance deal is finalized. Stashwick has gone on the record stating that he would love to reprise Liam Shaw in a continuation of Star Trek: Picard season 3, but Todd doesn’t think Star Trek: Legacy is in the cards in the next two years. Although, Stashwick also noted there’s “always a chance” Legacy could happen. Read Todd’s quote below:
I don’t have a crystal ball. I know that David Ellison is a good man. He is the Skydance [CEO]… I don’t know. I think he’s a Star Trek fan. Uh, I don’t know. That would be a question for them. I think there’s always a chance that they could do a Legacy. It’s just not gonna happen this year [and] probably not next year. Terry Matalas is tied up doing other stuff. So they’d probably have to wait til he’s available. So I don’t have an answer for you.
