WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Wonder Woman #11!Wonder Woman’s upcoming Absolute Power tie-in issue brings the most underrated Justice League team back together for what promises to be one of their most grueling battles yet. With a blend of familiar faces and new additions, the team dynamics are guaranteed to be promising, especially with the added caveat that they will soon be battling their advesaries without their powers.

Scheduled for release on July 17, 2024, Tom King, Tony S. Daniel, and Tomeu Morey’s Wonder Woman #11 will debut as the inaugural tie-in issue to DC’s blockbuster summer event, Absolute Power. This crisis event pits DC’s greatest heroes against Amanda Waller in a battle that will determine the fate of meta humans.

Issue #11 opens with Wonder Woman bunkering down with John Constantine, Detective Chimp, Madame Xanadu, Jim “the Spectre” Corrigan, Mary Marvel, and Shazam, following Waller’s smear campaign against heroes using deep fake AI-generated videos. This unique hero lineup marks the possible formation of a new Justice League Dark.

Wonder Woman Forms New Justice League Dark Team With John Constantine, Shazam, and More

Fans of Wonder Woman may remember her leadership in the 2018 Justice League Dark series, where she teamed up with Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat, and Detective Chimp to fight against the supernatural and magical threats that the regular Justice League often struggles to address. Fast forward nearly six years, Wonder Woman #11 appears poised to rekindle Diana’s ties to the Justice League Dark. Among the six heroes she gathers, four—John Constantine, Detective Chimp, Madame Xanadu, and Jim “the Spectre” Corrigan—have deep connections to the occult and previous memberships in JLD teams.

While Mary Marvel and Shazam lack previous ties to the JLD, their magical abilities naturally enhance this formidable roster. Their inclusion also introduces a unique dynamic, as both Mary and Billy are still children and have limited experience working with the other heroes, apart from Wonder Woman. With seven members, this team would become one of the largest and most diverse iterations of the Justice League Dark, should King choose to formally establish them as such. However, given the teased events, there’s an equal likelihood this team could dissolve as quickly as it forms.

How Will Wonder Woman’s Justice League Dark Team Hold Up Against an Amazo Without Their Powers?

Absolute Power 3 Deodato Variant Cover: an Amazo attacking Wonder Woman from above.

The preview for Wonder Woman #11 ends abruptly as one of Amanda Waller’s power-stealing Amazo robots attacks the heroes, marking the official start of Absolute Power in King’s storyline. Following Absolute Power #1, fans are aware that John Constantine loses his ability to wield magic. Moreover, Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 highlighted Billy and Mary’s escape from the Amazo, where they explain they owe their survival to Wonder Woman after losing most of their powers. Therefore, King’s Wonder Woman #11 will depict the pivotal Amazo encounter that results in John, Diana, Billy, and Mary losing their powers.

Thanks to the previously released Absolute Power issues, fans already know that the encounter with the Amazo in Wonder Woman #11 will result in the heroes losing their powers. However, what remains to be seen is how Wonder Woman and her teammates will respond after becoming powerless. Potential scenarios include a strategic retreat to regroup, capture by Waller, or continuing to confront the robot despite their limitations. Nevertheless, it’s evident that this fledgling Justice League Dark team is already fracturing, as Wonder Woman’s sacrifice allowed Billy and Mary to escape, leaving the fate of the other heroes uncertain for now.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is the superhero identity of Diana, Princess of the Amazons. Created on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman is a super-powered demi-goddess with extreme physical strength who utilizes magical gifts (like her famous Lasso of Truth) to defeat her foes. As mighty as her fellow heroes Superman and the Justice League, Wonder Woman is unmatched in her compassion and virtue.
