Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Inquisitors #1

Star Wars has set up the perfect premise for its brand-new Inquisitors series. Set during the “Dark Times” of the Empire’s rule over the galaxy, Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader’s Imperial Inquisitors served as their loyal Jedi hunters, tasked with eliminating or corrupting any Jedi Knights who might have survived the events of Order 66. However, their newest story sees a lone Jedi survivor declaring war on their dark order.

Many Imperial Inquisitors were once Jedi whom Palpatine corrupted, offering that which the Jedi could not. In the case of the Grand Inquisitor, Palpatine granted him full access to the Jedi Temple archives, something he’d been denied as one of the temple’s guards. To that end, the Inquisitors were all under the dark side’s sway as they sought to loyally serve the Empire and the dark side itself by killing any remaining Jedi. However, one surviving Jedi had had enough of the Empire’s hunters as seen at the end of Inquisitors #1 by Rodney Barnes and Ramon Rosanas.

Named Tensu Run, it seems as though this brave Jedi Knight intends to hunt down the Empire’s Jedi hunters themselves. As such, it looks as though the rest of the series will see Tensu facing multiple Inquisitors, especially with the reveal the Run was one of the Empire’s most-wanted Jedi fugitives in the Star Wars canon.

Tensu Ren Has No Fear Of The Empire

Attempting To Rebuild the Jedi Order

Tensu Run vs TIE Fighters

As seen in this first issue of Inquisitors, Tensu Run rose to prominence during the Dark Times after single-handedly attacking an Imperial facility and freeing several prisoners. Looking to be an expert pilot in his classic Jedi starfighter, it’s also revealed that Tensu has gathered a wide following as he seeks to rebuild the Jedi Order from the ground up. Receiving guidance from his master who also survived, it certainly looks as though Tensu has every intention of protecting what he’s built for the future.

Tensu Run isn’t the first known Jedi who tried to rebuild the Order following its demise in the prequels. Two of the biggest examples would be Cal Kestis and Luke Skywalker who both tried to bring back the Jedi Order. Likewise, it’s been reported that Rey Skywalker will be the one to truly succeed in her upcoming New Jedi Order movie. Seeing as how Tensu’s efforts are taking place before all three and even before the events of the original trilogy, he’s certainly destined to fail. However, the journey to his seemingly inevitable defeat will still be very exciting all the same.

A Leader Who Can Inspire Hope

Darth Vader Orders Tensu Run's Death

Remarkably, this first issue of Inquisitors sees Darth Vader himself getting involved, ordering the Grand Inquisitor to scour the galaxy for Tensu Run along with all the other Jedi hunters serving the Empire. Understanding Tensu’s ability to instill great hope and Imperial defiance, Vader recognizes the true threat this particular Jedi Knight poses more than any other survivor. Additionally, the fact that Tensu Run is refusing to run and hide promises that the rest of Star Wars’ new Inquisitors series is bound to be incredibly exciting.
