Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction is one of the best new anime to come to Crunchyroll in recent months, but it’s had a major problem with its subtitles from day one. Dead Dead Demon’s subtitles are handled by Ocean Productions instead of Crunchyroll, and not only were the subtitles exclusively for the English script, but they also never translated background dialogue or on-screen text, despite how confusing that made things.

Crunchyroll’s handling of Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction has done a lot to hurt its popularity, but that appears to have finally started to change. Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction episode #7 was recently released, and it’s made clear that Crunchyroll, or at least Ocean Productions, is finally taking measures to fix the issues with the series’ subtitles.

There are still notable problems with the subtitles, but it’s still a much-needed change that will hopefully do a lot for the anime’s popularity, going forward.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction episode#7 had far better subtitles than previous episodes, as for the first time, on-screen text, background dialogue, and even the opening and ending themes were properly translated, a stark contrast from previous episodes. Thanks to that, the show is easy to watch in both English and Japanese, and that does a lot to help up its overall quality.

There are still problems with Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’s subtitles, however. The subtitles are still exclusively for the English script, and because of that, their timing is still usually off, resulting in moments where there are subtitles despite no dialogue being spoken and no subtitles to go with dialogue. It’s unclear if the continued problems with Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’s subtitles are because of Crunchyroll or Ocean Productions, but at the very least, the translation of background dialogue and on-screen text still improves the quality, as a whole.

Will Crunchyroll Ever Completely Fix Dead Dead Demon’s Subtitles?

Crunchyroll and Ocean Productions have taken a big step toward fixing Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’s subtitles, and that begs the question of whether they’ll completely fix things by using a script for the original Japanese. It’s unknown if that can be expected, but if Crunchyroll and Ocean Productions are working on the subtitles this late into the series, then Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction might have proper subtitles before it ends.

The quality of Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction more than warrants that kind of treatment, so hopefully, Crunchyroll will try to deliver on that before it’s too late.
