The Acolyte has just one episode to go, and these 10 major mysteries still have yet to be addressed. The Acolyte has brought something truly unique to Star Wars, not only because the show represents a brand-new era of the Star Wars timeline to be shown on screen, but also because it is the first of Star Wars’ movies and TV shows to be a mystery thriller. This has meant a structure very different from other Star Wars projects.

Rather than one major plot twist (such as the franchise’s most iconic, the reveal that Darth Vader is really Luke Skywalker’s father in The Empire Strikes Back), The Acolyte has had innumerable shocking twists and reveals throughout its seven episodes. However, at times, this approach has also made way for countless lingering questions and, arguably, even some gaps. With just one episode left, The Acolyte still has to address these 10 mysteries.

In The Acolyte episode 6, Master Sol realized it was not Osha with him, but Mae, who had taken her sister’s place to carry out her plan to kill Sol. While Sol uncovered this plot, it wasn’t revenge or Mae’s arrest or even a fight he was seeking. Instead, he simply wanted to reveal what really happened on Brendok, presumably as a way to ameliorate some of the damage he’d done and, perhaps, lessen his own guilt somewhat.

Although episode 7 is not narrated by Sol, it’s clear that, as the episode outlines what happened on the night the witches of Brendok died, Sol is telling Mae in the present day. However, it remains to be seen how Mae will react to Sol’s confession. In truth, the events of The Acolyte episode 7 make Sol look very much at fault, so while he may hope this reduces Mae’s desire to kill him, it could have the opposite effect. Presumably, episode 8 will pick up right where episode 6 left off and finally confirm Mae’s reaction to Sol’s story.

Is Mother Koril Still Alive?

The Witches Of Brendok Died, But Mother Koril May Not Have Been Among Them

The death of the witches of Brendok in The Acolyte episode 3 was one of the show’s most significant mysteries, as it was immediately clear that all was not what it seemed. At first, Mae was presumed to be at fault for the death of Osha and Mae’s entire coven, as both Osha and Master Sol referenced Mae starting a fire that killed their family. However, episode 3 threw that into question when it showed the witches’ bodies, and they were notably not burned. Ultimately, episode 7 confirmed that Mae had not actually killed the witches.

Instead, Jedi Master Indara killed most of the witches in the coven (possibly accidentally) when she was trying to help Kelnacca be released from his possession. However, Mother Koril did not seem to be among the dead. In fact, Koril’s body was not shown among the bodies of the fallen witches, nor was her body separately shown later, as Mother Aniseya’s was. This means that Mother Koril could have survived that massacre on Brendok. If she did, The Acolyte finale has an incredible opportunity for one of the most shocking twists yet.

What Is The Unknown Planet?

Qimir’s Island Planet Is Still A Mystery

The Unknown Planet is one of several new planets in The Acolyte, but this one is easily the most mysterious and compelling of all. Obviously, the planet does not have a name, but what makes it most fascinating is its importance to the plot and its connection to other Star Wars shows and movies. In terms of the plot, the Unknown Planet is currently the location of Osha, The Acolyte’s protagonist who seemed to so firmly be on the light side of the Force, and Qimir, the formerly masked villain presumed to be a Sith.

While that would be enthralling enough, episode 6 also heavily hinted that a romance is brewing between the two, and it seems to be drawing Osha further and further away from the light. In terms of the larger Star Wars connection, though, the Unknown Planet is highly reminiscent of Ahch-To, Luke Skywalker’s hidden planet in the sequel trilogy and the location of the first Jedi Temple. The Unknown Planet is confirmed not to be Ahch-To itself, but in light of that connection, it’s clearly important. It will be up to The Acolyte finale to identify precisely what this planet is.

7

Is Qimir A True Sith?

There’s Been Plenty Of Speculation, But The Acolyte Still Has Yet To Confirm Qimir’s Sith Title

Qimir/the Stranger is likely the most celebrated character in The Acolyte, at least in terms of audience reactions, and it’s no surprise why. After playing the goofy sidekick role perfectly, The Acolyte episode 5 saw Qimir reveal his true nature as a ruthless killer. In that episode alone, Qimir killed multiple Jedi, and he chillingly referred to Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon as “it” after killing her. He has since gone on to quite literally try to seduce Osha to the dark side, taking a quick dip and then marching up to her shirtless on the Unknown Planet.

While this screams the dark side of the Force, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a Sith. In fact, there’s still plenty of debate about whether Qimir is a Sith or something else entirely, especially because there have been a number of clues Qimir isn’t really a Sith Lord. Star Wars also has a number of other options, the most popular being that Qimir is instead the first Knight of Ren. Hopefully, The Acolyte finale will finally put this discussion to rest, confirming one way or another if Qimir is officially a Sith or some other form of dark side Force-user.

6

Does Master Sol Die?

Master Sol Is The Last Surviving Jedi On Mae’s Hit List

From the very beginning of The Acolyte, Mae’s mission was clear. She wanted to hunt down and kill the four Jedi who had been stationed on Brendok when she was a child: Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, and Sol. She very swiftly killed Indara and Torbin, and Qimir ultimately murdered Kelnacca, meaning that Sol is the last Jedi standing. Currently, Mae and Sol are effectively alone with one another, and while he may have her restrained for now, that can’t last forever.

If The Acolyte is only going to be one season long, it would make sense for Sol to die in the finale. While it would be sad, as he is also a beloved character, his death would complete this arc and explain why the Jedi of the prequel trilogy weren’t aware the Sith were alive at this time. However, The Acolyte’s showrunner, Leslye Headland, has been very vocal about wanting more than one season, and, lately, Star Wars audiences have verbalized that desire too. Of course, Sol’s fate may be decided in the final episode either way.

Does Qimir Have A Sith Master?

If Qimir Is A Sith, He May Be The Sith Apprentice

It remains to be seen whether Qimir is a Sith, and there are strong opinions on both sides of the debate, but if Qimir is a Sith, he almost certainly is the apprentice, not the master. For one, Qimir himself said he was seeking an acolyte, not an apprentice, which indicates that he is not currently a master. For another, though, Qimir is quite different from the other Sith masters in Star Wars. Yes, all the Sith have a bit of recklessness in them and, for many of them, even immaturity, but Qimir would feel underdeveloped as a Sith master.

Not only was Qimir unmasked by a Padawan, but he also revealed himself to the Jedi rather than remaining in the shadows. Sure, other Star Wars Sith have made grave errors and odd choices at various times, but Qimir simply doesn’t seem disciplined enough to be the Sith master. If that’s the case, though, this still leaves the thrilling possibility that The Acolyte’s finale will finally reveal the true Sith master, which could be an incredible plot twist.

Did Vernestra Rwoh’s Lightwhip Cause Qimir’s Scar?

Qimir’s Scar Seems Perfectly Fits With A Lightwhip

Following the episode 6 reveals of both Qimir’s scar across his back and Vernestra Rwoh’s purple lightwhip, theories immediately began that it was Vernestra herself who gave Qimir that scar. Currently, this seems to be the most plausible explanation. Qimir’s scar is quite unique, and it just so happens to match the lightwhip’s blade (that was revealed in the very same episode).

However, it’s unclear exactly what that confrontation would have looked like. While Qimir implied that it was his Jedi master who gave him the scar, he also said that he was very old—presumably, much older than he looks. In that case, it’s uncertain whether Vernestra being his master would make sense in terms of timeline. It’s possible that Vernestra was actually his Padawan and she attacked him all the same. Of course, it’s also more than possible that Qimir is an unreliable source and has intentionally misled Osha with these details.

Does Osha Join The Dark Side Of The Force?

The Acolyte Episode 6 Heavily Hinted That Osha Is Heading Toward The Dark Side

One of the most shocking moments of The Acolyte episode 6 was when Osha decided to try on Qimir’s mask, signaling a major step toward the dark side of the Force. Throughout The Acolyte up until that point, Osha seemed firmly on the light side; in fact, Mae and Osha seemed to be opposites of one another in that way, with Mae on the dark side and Osha on the light. However, Qimir’s corruption was clearly working, as Osha elected to put the helmet on after being tempted by it.

Now, Osha’s allegiance remains up in the air, and the finale could conceivably reveal that the twins have switched places, with Osha now on the dark side, and Mae on the light. Even if Mae does not forgive and join Sol, though, Osha seems headed straight toward the dark side, perhaps even agreeing to become the acolyte Qimir so desperately seeks. As with most items on this list, this seems like quite a bit of story for one final episode to tackle, but surely this is one question that must be answered.

2

Are Qimir And Osha Going To Have A Full-Blown Romance?

Audiences Went Wild When The Acolyte Suggested A New ‘Ship’ Is Brewing

Of course, Osha’s decision about becoming Qimir’s acolyte has received considerably less attention online than the idea that Qimir and Osha might be leaning in a more romantic direction. This began in episode 5 when Qimir curiously draped a cloak over Osha and rubbed her arm before taking her away to the Unknown Planet. Episode 6 then doubled down on this, with Qimir taking off his clothes in front of Osha, teasing her about joining him, and then getting physically close to her several times, including by stroking her arm as she held a lightsaber to his neck.

This wouldn’t be the first time Star Wars revealed a relationship between dark side and light side Force-users, and ‘Reylo’ connections have already been drawn by the showrunner herself. But now the question remains, will the finale actually confirm a romance between Osha and Qimir? It seems, based on audience reactions on social media, that many are hoping it does.

Will Osha Learn What Really Happened On Brendok?

Sol Might Have Told Mae, But He Hasn’t Told Osha

If Osha doesn’t join the dark side for Qimir, she might end up joining it anyway once she learns what truly transpired on Brendok. Mae is surely going to be furious upon hearing Sol’s confession, but for Osha, this pain will be so much worse. Mae has viewed Sol as the enemy from the beginning. Osha, entirely to the contrary, sees Sol as a father figure, and she has no idea that the Jedi intentionally misled her about what they did that night and pinned their crimes on her sister.

It would be difficult to blame Osha if she reacted this way to learning the truth; while the Jedi clearly meant well, they allowed Osha to think her sister had killed their entire family for well over a decade. Frankly, what they did was cruel. It will be fascinating to see how The Acolyte addresses this major plot point, and these other remaining mysteries, in the show’s upcoming final episode; the finale certainly has its work cut out for it.

The final episode of The Acolyte releases on Tuesday, July 16th, at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST on Disney+.
