Cameron Diaz is making her acting comeback by starring in several upcoming films, but her return to a role in a sequel particularly seems incredibly exciting. Unlike most actors who struggle to find their feet during their initial years, Cameron Diaz springboarded into acting after making her feature-film debut with The Mask. The film, with Jim Carrey as its titular lead, went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 1994, making Cameron Diaz a household name and paving the way for her to land more mainstream roles.

In the years that followed, Cameron Diaz starred in several critically acclaimed movies, like There’s Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, and Gangs of New York. She was also a part of many commercial hits, like Charlie’s Angels, What Happens In Vegas, and Knight and Day. However, around 2018, she announced her retirement from acting and stayed away from the spotlight for several years. Fortunately, more than half a decade later, she is making her acting return — that, too, with a highly anticipated sequel among other projects.

Cameron Diaz’s Movie Comeback Wouldn’t Have Been Complete Without Shrek 5

Shrek 5 Also Wouldn’t Be The Same Without Her Voicing Princess Fiona

Cameron Diaz is making her Hollywood comeback after a decade, but she is already a part of three movie projects. While one is an action flick, Back in Action, in which she stars alongside Jamie Foxx, another, titled Outcome, is a crime drama directed by Jonah Hill that also stars Keanu Reeves. However, even though both original projects sound exciting, what truly completes Cameron Diaz’s comeback is her role in her third upcoming film, Shrek 5.

Long before Diaz hung her boots as an actor, she voiced Princess Fiona in several installments of the Shrek franchise. After hearing her voice behind Princess Fiona in every Shrek movie and original video, it became hard not to associate the character with anyone else. Since her vocal talent and comedic timing have allowed her to become synonymous with the iconic Shrek character, it is relieving that Shrek 5 is marking her return and not leaving this important aspect of her acting career incomplete by replacing her with someone else.

Shrek 5 Is A Much Better Comeback Movie For Cameron Diaz Than Back In Action

Her Return With Shrek 5 Instill Nostalgia

Since Back in Action has a star-studded cast and also seems to be a promising espionage action comedy, it is not surprising that there is already a lot of hype surrounding its release. However, Shrek 5 still seems like a better comeback film for Diaz because she has been consistently playing Princess Fiona for over two decades and there is a sense of nostalgia associated with her portrayal of the character’s voice.

Considering the long line of action comedy movies, like Charlie’s Angels, Knight & Day, and The Green Hornet, she has worked in, she is the perfect casting choice for Back in Action. However, even without her, Back in Action probably would still have happened with someone else as its lead. Shrek 5, on the other hand, would have felt off and lacking without Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona’s voice because it has always been a crucial part of her acting legacy.
