Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for all the books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles.

The last series in the Shadowhunter Chronicles has yet to debut, but I think I know what the final scene of The Wicked Powers will be. Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter Chronicles currently spans five series and several short story collections, and the final Shadowhunter trilogy will debut with its first book in 2025. Dubbed The Wicked Powers, this concluding chapter will catch readers up with many of their favorite characters from Clare’s previous series. It will also bring the author’s saga to a close, tying up loose ends and resolving major character arcs.

I’m confident that The Wicked Powers will take Shadowhunter fans on a wild ride, featuring the tragic twists and heart-wrenching romances that make Clare’s previous books so great. And although I can’t say for sure what direction Clare will take the series’ main characters in, I do have a prediction about what the final Shadowhunters scene will be. Clare has already hinted at this development in previous books, and it would be in line with the final moments of The Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, and Dark Artifices.

I Think I Know The Shadowhunter Chronicles’ Final Scene Ahead Of The Wicked Powers

The Wicked Powers will conclude the character arcs of Ty, Kit, and Drusilla from The Dark Artifices, but it will also be tasked with wrapping up the Shadowhunter Chronicles as a whole. I’m hopeful the trilogy’s ending will do the saga’s legacy justice, and that means there’s only one scene it can end with: Jace and Clary’s wedding. Jace and Clary are the main characters of The Mortal Instruments books, and Clare has already hinted that they will get married sometime in the future. Jace proposes to Clary during The Dark Artifices, but she rejects him because of ominous dreams she’s having.

The Wicked Powers is poised to address Clary’s nightmares, and it’s also the last chance for Jace and Clary to tie the knot. There’s no way that Clare will end the Shadowhunter Chronicles without these two getting married, so it seems inevitable that it will happen in the upcoming trilogy. Of course, the beginning and middle of Clare’s series tend to be full of dark moments and escalating stakes. It’s more likely Clary will agree to marry Jace towards the end — and their wedding would conclude the entire Shadowhunter saga on a high note.

Jace & Clary’s Wedding Is The Perfect Place To End The Shadowhunter Books

Cassandra Clare’s Saga Would Start & End With Them

Although Clare’s Shadowhunter books have a tendency to get dark, they typically conclude on a hopeful note. And I think striking this balance will be especially important for the final trilogy of the Shadowhunter Chronicles. The Wicked Powers can break our hearts as much as it wants, but the series will need to wrap things up on a high note. It must promise a better future for the remaining characters, and highlight their contributions to that end. Clary and Jace’s wedding would be an ideal celebration of all that’s happened and everything to come.

Additionally, The Wicked Powers’ ending should pay homage to all the Shadowhunter books that came before. Clare has been expanding this world since The Mortal Instruments debuted back in 2007, and there’s no better way to acknowledge that than by returning to her very first main characters. The Shadowhunter Chronicles starts with Jace and Clary, so it’d be fitting for the saga to end with them. Their wedding would be a reminder of the franchise’s roots, as well as how far Clare’s books have come.

The Wicked Powers Ending With A Wedding Would Follow A Shadowhunters Trend

Multiple Shadowhunter Series End With Weddings

Jace and Clary’s wedding would conclude the Shadowhunter Chronicles on an upbeat note, but that’s not the only reason I think Clare will end The Wicked Powers there. The author has a habit of concluding Shadowhunter series with weddings or engagements. It wouldn’t be a surprise if she continues this trend in The Wicked Powers, especially with love being such a prominent theme of the entire saga. The Mortal Instruments takes its final bow with Jocelyn and Luke’s wedding, and The Dark Artifices’ final moments see Magnus and Alec tying the knot.

While The Infernal Devices doesn’t end with a wedding ceremony, it does see Will proposing to Tessa during its final chapters. It would be disappointing if Clary and Jace never got the opportunity to celebrate their love in the Shadowhunter Chronicles, especially when so many other iconic couples have. That’s precisely why I think The Wicked Powers has to end with their big day. It’s the best possible conclusion for the Shadowhunter Chronicles, and it perfectly pays off everything Clare has put into this saga.
