Warning: contains spoilers for “Heirarchy of Power,” appearing in Giant Size Silver Surfer #1!

Marvel just confirmed the MCU is a much poorer place without one key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Across three films, the Guardians established themselves as one of Marvel’s premiere teams. There are several members from the comics who have not made the leap to live action, and the story “Hierarchy of Power,” appearing in Giant Size Silver Surfer #1 makes the case for one in particular.

Written by Mat Groom and drawn by Tommaso Bianchi, “Hierarchy of Power,” appears as the primary feature in Giant Size Silver Surfer #1. In it, Terrax, another former herald of Galactus, seeks to strip the Silver Surfer of the Power Cosmic. Inspired by jealousy, Terrax challenges the Surfer to a fight. The Surfer seems unphased by anything Terrax throws at him. Then the Surfer plays his trump card: everything Terrax has experienced has been an illusion, cast by Moondragon.

Thanks to Moondragons’ assistance, the Surfer is able to thwart Terrax.

Moondragon Has Ties to Two of Marvel’s Biggest Teams

Moondragon Is Immensely Powerful, and Acquired Her Powers in an Awesome Way

Moondragon has been a key part of the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe for nearly 50 years, and in that time, she has been a member of both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the most powerful telepaths in the Marvel Universe, Moondragon still has yet to make her MCU debut. Given her ties to two of the MCU’s biggest teams, Moondragon has vast potential in live-action, and her appearance in Giant Size Silver Surfer shows why, giving fans a great look at her sheer power.

The Silver Surfer calls on Moondragon to help him fight Terrax. As another former herald of Galactus, Terrax also has access to the Power Cosmic. This makes him extremely powerful, and yet Moondragon bamboozles Terrax not once but twice. Her powers allow her to control whole populations and go toe to toe with Galactus. What makes Moondragon even more impressive is how she obtained her fantastic abilities: through discipline and sheer force of will. She is not a mutant, nor were her powers gifted to her. Moondragon is a one of a kind character in the Marvel Universe.

The MCU Needs Moondragon

Introducing Moondragon to the MCU Could Be a Challenge

And after seeing Moondragon in action in Giant Size Silver Surfer #1, it is difficult not to want her to jump to the MCU. Although the Guardians of the Galaxy series appears to be concluded, there are still many great opportunities to introduce Moondragon. Admittedly, Moondragon’s story has been warp and woof with Thanos’ over the years. With the Mad Titan now dead, finding a convincing way to introduce Moondragon to the MCU may be challenging. However, Moondragon’s inspiring origin and great powers make a wonderful addition.
