The villains in My Hero Academia are some of the most well-written, most compelling, and overall best in anime. Since the series focuses on a world where almost everyone has superpowers, this definitely makes sense. However, few villains in the franchise are more terrifying, cruel, and downright horrific than Tomura Shigaraki.

Shigaraki is a wicked individual, but his character design is undoubtedly cool and distinctive, matching with his fearsome personality and frightening his opponents. u/ghostlygreyson, a cosplayer on Reddit, has created a depiction of the vile villain that is sure to make anyone’s blood run cold in fear.

In the image, they wear simple black clothing, which allows the other aspects of the cosplay to contrast even more starkly against the neutral background. The wig is a light grayish blue and styled in a very messy manner, just as disheveled as Shigaraki’s hair looks in his anime appearances.

The Cosplay Contains Numerous Manifestations of Shigaraki’s Decay Quirk

Scars, Wounds, Flaking Skin, and Even the Disembodied Hands All Represent His Horrifying Ability

Their makeup is remarkably detailed and gruesome, depicting various wounds and scabs on Shigaraki’s face. The reason the character’s skin appears to be flaking off and wrinkled is due to his Decay Quirk, which causes this unfortunate and uncomfortable symptom. As well as patches of disintegrated skin, the despicable character also possesses a large scar across his lip and one across his eye, which are also represented with makeup in u/ghostlygreyson’s cosplay. The villain’s pupils are a bright red color, which is another little detail the cosplayer has also imitated with a pair of red contact lenses.

The most eye-catching and standout aspect of this look is the set of three hands grasping at the cosplayer, in addition to their own hand reaching out in front of their chest. Shigaraki is always surrounded by disembodied hands in the anime, grasping his head, torso, and shoulders. These appendages have a tragic and heartbreaking backstory: they belong to his deceased family. Shigaraki’s Quirk caused ruinous destruction when he first developed it, because he had no control over the ability initially. This is one of the most devastating aspects of Shigaraki’s origin story that eventually led him to pursue villainy.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
