Longlegs is already my favorite horror movie of 2024, and the film makes me even more excited for an upcoming horror sequel to a movie that has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to the film’s viral marketing campaign, Longlegs was one of my most anticipated movies of the year, with Nicolas Cage’s mysterious role as the Longlegs killer being incredibly exciting. Longlegs surpassed my expectations upon viewing it, and this is great news, as it has a major link to an upcoming sequel to a horror hit.

Longlegs manages to mix the horror and mystery genres in a fantastic way, creating a unique blend that hasn’t been seen since The Silence of the Lambs. While elements like the Satanic imagery, creepy dolls, and Nick Cage’s horror performance as Longlegs help to bring this atmosphere to the film, the true star of the show is Maika Monroe. Monroe’s performance as the protagonist, FBI agent Lee Harker, is the best part of Longlegs, which is why I’m excited to see what she does next.

After Longlegs, Maika Monroe has another exciting horror project coming up, with that being a sequel to It Follows. 2014’s It Follows is a horror film that I adore, and while I didn’t necessarily expect a sequel, its announcement was a welcome one. The It Follows sequel is titled They Follow, with this title implying that the film could be even more terrifying than its predecessor.

Although details on They Follow are still slim, one piece of casting has been revealed, as it has been confirmed that Maika Monroe will return in They Follow. Monroe will be returning as Jay from the first film, and since Monroe has proven herself to be fantastic in horror roles like It Follows and Longlegs, I can’t wait to see what she does next in They Follow.

They Follow Can Continue Maika Monroe’s Excellent Horror Movie Run

She Is Becoming A Scream Queen

They Follow has the possibility to solidify Maika Monroe’s spot as a modern-day scream queen, following up on her excellent horror movie run. Although It Follows is by far the most popular of Monroe’s horror movies, she has appeared in several other horror projects that I love, such as Watcher, Significant Other, and Villains.

Monroe’s tendency to stick to the horror genre and work on untraditional stories makes her an incredibly interesting horror actor in my eyes, which is why I can’t wait to see her again in They Follow. Returning in a sequel to a horror classic is a defining characteristic of the classic scream queens, and Maika Monroe could build off of her Longlegs success with the release of They Follow.
