Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has finally begun the long-awaited time skip that fans got to witness at the beginning of the series, and it is looking to be much better than expected. However, every chapter keeps reinforcing the shocking first line from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Chapter #11 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex featured a beatdown of Himawari, Sarada, Konohamaru, and many shinobi except for Boruto, courtesy of the overwhelming strength of the self-aware Divine Trees. This has been an ongoing thing since the start of part 2, and is gradually confirming Kawaki’s statement that the age of shinobi was over.

Although Boruto is the embodiment of what it means to be a ninja, the fact that he has Otsutsuki powers puts him in a different class than others in the profession and is exactly why he was the last person standing in front of Kawaki in the flash forward. Fortunately, though, there is hope for the world of shinobi as they face lifeforms superior to them in most aspects.

Technology Could Be the Saving Grace of the Shinobi World

Facing Overwhelming Alien Threars, the Shinobi May Have to Rely on Science

How Boruto's opinion of scientific ninja tools has changed through Boruto

The Ao arc and subsequent arcs showed how ninja tools could be helpful, especially since members of Kara, Eida, and one of the strongest characters, Daemon, were all technologically altered or manufactured. Kawaki also relies heavily on advancements from Amado. With Amado now freeing himself from Omnipotence and cooperating with Konoha, his genius with weaponry could be the saving grace of the ninjas as they take on such menaces. One important theme in Boruto was complementing traditional ninja fighting styles with technology, as shown by Naruto’s prosthetic arm, so it is very likely that the characters will include ninja tech in their arsenal.

Furthermore, ninjutsu is still proving to be effective even against Otsutsukis who can absorb them. Momoshiki was finished off using a Rasengan and Isshiki was fooled by a Shadow Clone, which demonstrates that wit plus ninjutsu can overpower even the strongest of creatures. The story is gradually developing each character to become much stronger. Himawari is yet to master her new powers, Sarada hasn’t used the Mangekyo Sharingan yet, Mitsuki’s Sage Mode will definitely be necessary, and even Konohamaru is becoming increasingly relevant.

Boruto insulting Kawaki for not training may be the series’ way of addressing one of its biggest issues.

Whether Boruto will truly be the only survivor of the shinobi world is still unknown, but Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is showing how the foundation of the ninja world is crumbling away slowly. The characters in Naruto Shippuden also faced a similar predicament when they faced Kaguya and the Ten-Tails but still emerged victorious, so it’s now up to their successors to show how humans can defeat all-powerful alien gods.
