The first clip from Transformers One has been released, revealing Optimus Prime and Megatron comically trying to transform for the first time. The upcoming animated movie tells the origin story of the leader of the Autobots and Decepticons, showcasing their friendship when they were known as Orion Pax and D-16 respectively. The story of Transformers One involves the duo, alongside their friends Elita and Bumblebee (known then as B-127), getting the power to transform into vehicles in order to stop a threat to Cybertron.

Now, Transformers has released the first clip from Transformers One at Nickelodeon’s 2024 Kids Choice Awards, revealing Optimus Prime, Megatron, and their allies trying to transform for the very first time.

The clip sees the four characters falling out of a cave, running down a mountain and trying to transform while being attacked. This leads to many funny moments, such as Optimus Prime’s head disappearing, Megatron’s leg becoming a blade of some kind, and Elitra slipping when wheels appear on her feet.

The initial transformation scene in the animated prequel shows just how inexperienced Optimus Prime and Megatron were when they first got their ability to transform. However, since the pair are much younger in this iteration than they are by the start of the Autobot and Decepticon feud, the movie will no doubt see them learning how to properly control their newfound powers. The same can be said for the other Transformers One characters, with Elita and Bumblebee also likely to learn more about their abilities as the film progresses.

Since the team is going to be facing a major threat to Cybertron, they’ll need to act fast in order to better utilize the powers bestowed upon them. Even though the characters will only just be getting the ability to transform in this movie, their necessity to learn about the new abilities means they’ll likely be using them expertly by film’s end. Even though there are plans for Transformers One to be the start of an animated trilogy, it won’t be as enticing if the main characters can’t use their powers properly before the movie comes to a close.

With plenty of action ahead, the characters learning how to transform could help strengthen Transformers One’s Optimus Prime and Megatron story, highlighting why they ended up becoming enemies. Perhaps the ability to transform leads them both down different paths of where their planet should go, ultimately ending in conflict. While more transformation sequences are in store for the movie, this first clip offers a memorable, funny moment setting the stage for the origin story adventure.
