Spoilers for Green Lantern #13!

In the rippling shockwave of Absolute Power, heroes and metahumans alike are dropping out of the sky, and Superman is no exception. Even Hal Jordan, the supposed most powerful Green Lantern, is left powerless and at the mercy of Amanda Waller’s newest Suicide Squad taking the world by storm. But in darkest night, the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, won’t give up his power so easily.

In Green Lantern #13, an Absolute Power tie-in by Jeremy Adams and Fernando Pasarin, Amanda Waller’s Amazo’s are sucking the powers out of all the superheroes. As the Justice Society fights back against the Amazos, it’s clear the heroes are fighting a losing battle, and Green Lantern Alan Scott can feel his own power draining out of his body as it funnels into its new robotic host.

Then, Green Lantern suddenly drains that very power back into his body from the Amazo through willpower alone. This display of incredible willpower — taking back the power that was stolen from him through sheer force — shows that Alan Scott might just be the strongest Green Lantern in history, especially considering how quickly these Amazos took out the Superman Family.

The First Green Lantern Officially Has More Willpower Than Superman

Alan Scott Is Truly One-of-a-Kind

Comic book panels: Green Lantern Alan Scott extends his glowing ring.

Technically, Alan Scott has been around since the 1940s, so if anyone should have the willpower by now, it’s him. While he’s the original Green Lantern, his power stems from magic, while the other Lanterns use rings fused with cosmic willpower. This divide always left Alan Scott slightly ostracized from the Green Lantern Corps, though now it seems the Corps itself might be retired. But after this one-on-one face-off against Waller’s Amazo, there’s no question about Alan’s willpower. To take back his own power means he’s the strongest there is, because no one else could do the same.

Practically every superhero succumbed to the Amazos with very few exceptions. For Green Lanterns, the willpower was sucked right out of the rings, but for Alan Scott, whose power resides within his very body, it’s not so easily taken away. Since these robots are connected via a hive mind, the surprise that the Amazo shows reveals that this is a standalone event around the world. It sounds easy to say that he simply willed his powers back, but whenevery other hero in the DC Universe, including Superman, couldn’t take their powers back, Alan isn’t just displaying willpower – he’s revealing real power.

Alan Scott Might Just Be the Strongest Green Lantern

This Green Lantern Has More than Just Willpower

As Absolute Power continues with high-stakes drama never before seen in the DC world, at least one light is still shining bright. In a surprise turn, Alan Scott might just be the only hero who can save not only the day but the world. Normally outperformed by Superman’s feats and hidden in the shadow of other Green Lanterns with their fantastic light shows, this Green Lantern still has more than enough willpower to show all these younger heroes how it’s done.
