This year marks the premiere of The Night Agent season 2, and with it returns one of Netflix’s best action shows. The current era is a huge time for action-packed television, with several massive shows still on air. Prime Video has captured a huge sect of this market, with their shows Reacher and The Boys being among the most popular titles on streaming right now. Reacher season 3 has been confirmed after a successful sophomore season earlier this year, as has The Boys season 5, which will end the series.

Last year, Netflix made its foray into the high-octane action landscape with the release of The Night Agent. The Night Agent’s story centers around a low-level CIA operative named Peter who is tasked with attending to a phone that never rings. Everything changes one night when Peter receives a call that will unlock a conspiracy that will send him off in multiple surprising directions. The Night Agent cast includes Gabriel Basso, Lucianne Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, Phoenix Raei, and Enrique Murciano. The Night Agent season 2 drop this year, but the show has made some changes.

The Night Agent Is One Of Netflix’s Best Action Shows

The Night Agent Received Good Reviews

The Night Agent is one of Netflix’s strongest action shows to date, albeit with some flaws. The Night Agent’s reviews are largely positive, for the debut season brought in a 74% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 78% audience approval rating. The Netflix viewership numbers were also high for The Night Agent season 1, as the series had a record-breaking run. The action show became one of Netflix’s top-watched series of all time in just three weeks.

This is not to say that The Night Agent is a perfect show. While the series is action-packed, it is not exactly full of twists and turns, as its beats and arc often end up being formulaic and predictable. That said, the moments in The Night Agent and how the show builds suspense are enticing enough to make The Night Agent a fun show to binge-watch.

How The Night Agent Season 2 Will Be Different From Season 1

The Night Agent Season 2 Is An Original Story

Peter and Rose in The Night Agent

The Night Agent was quickly renewed for season 2, but the shape of the sophomore season will take on a far different form than The Night Agent season 1. Unlike The Night Agent season 1, which was based on The Night Agent novel by Matthew Quirk, season 2 will be an entirely original story. This is because The Night Agent only had one novel in the series, and its plot was largely covered in season 1.

Departing from The Night Agent novel is a risk for Netflix. The streamer either has the chance to make The Night Agent their own, or risk floundering without the guidance of a source material. So far, The Night Agent season 2 cast has expanded, hinting at the new characters and action-packed adventures to come in this well-liked Netflix series.
