A new update from the co-creator of That ’90s Show teases the perfect way an OG That ’70s Show character could return after 23 years. That ’90s Show easily captured the energy of the flagship series in its first season, with a new group of teens tackling adulthood with some help from the original cast. The dramas and storylines remained widely relatable to audiences, culminating in That ’90s Show‘s season 1 ending. That ending earned the Netflix series a season 2, allowing the teen’s antics to continue to evolve beyond the original show and its characters.

The main cast of That ’70s Show has only had little cameos throughout so far, with Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and Red Forman (Kurtwood Smith) remaining the only recurring original characters. That being said, more updates on That ’90s Show season 2 seem to hint at a way for a beloved side character to return. To do so, the creators of the series could employ a sitcom staple that could take the series out of its perpetual summer: a Christmas episode.

That ’90s Show’s Co-Creator Has Teased The Possibility Of A Christmas Episode

Greg Mettler Discussed This In An Exclusive TVLine Interview

Greg Mettler’s discussion of expanding past the summer in That ’90s Show teases the possibility of a Christmas episode. Mettler mentioned to TVLine that the possibility of expanding to include winter holidays and visits had been “heavily discussed”. If a Christmas episode were to happen, it would be a perfect way to expand on the characters. The many tried-and-true storylines would yield well to comedic mishaps among the teens. Not only that, but That 90s Show could include more ’70s characters that have not been seen yet to add to the humor, including Pastor Dave (Kevin McDonald).

A That ’90s Show Christmas Episode Is The Perfect Way To Bring Back That ’70s Show’s Pastor Dave

Pastor Dave Was Mentioned In Season 1, Episode 2 Of That ’90s Show

Pastor Dave could appear in a potential That ’90s Show Christmas episode, allowing the series the perfect way to bring him back after his last That ’70s Show appearance. Pastor Dave was a smaller, recurring character in the original show as he was the pastor and friend of Kitty, the only religious member of her household. His overly cheerful nature and desire to fit in would be a great inclusion to a Christmas episode, allowing another ’70s character to appear on That ’90s Show.

Pastor Dave, in That ’70s Show, wanted to appear to be with the times and often fell comically short. This would add some great comedy to That ’90s Show‘s potential Christmas episode. The teens trying to be kind to the awkward pastor for the sake of the adults would be humorous and remind audiences of the group’s own parents’ interactions with him. Considering his last appearance was in a Christmas episode, having Pastor Dave arrive for a Christmas episode of That ’90s Show would make the cameo all the better, adding to both the humor and heart of the series.

That ’70s Show returns set two decades later with That ’90s Show, acting as a sequel but bringing back old cast favorites. Led by Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) Forman, the new cast arrives as the next generation, with the daughter of Eric and Donna, Leia Forman, leading the charge. Spending the summer with her grandparents, Leia makes new friends and forges new bonds in Point Place, Wisconsin. That ’70s Show series regulars make cameos in the show to maintain that sense of familiarity, and the show adopts the conventions of the ’90s as expected. That ’90s Show first aired on Netflix with a total of ten episodes.
