Five female characters will drive the narrative in Tracker season 2. The series debuted early in 2024 and quickly became one of the most popular shows on television. After just four episodes, Tracker was renewed for a second season. The series is based on a group of books by Jeff Deaver called the Colter Shaw series. The show features Justin Hartley as Deaver’s titular character. While the show will center around Hartley’s character in the upcoming season, the women in his life will be the ones who will move the narrative forward in Tracker season 2.

While Colter works to solve a series of small mysteries in a procedural-style format, one over-arching mystery is central to Tracker‘s narrative. Hartley’s character began to chip away at the mystery in season 1, and he will surely continue in season 2. While it was initially believed that Colter’s brother Russell was responsible for Ashton Shaw’s murder, the elder seemingly cleared his name when he appeared in episode 12. With Russell off the hook, Colter must turn to the women in his life to drive the narrative forward in the show’s upcoming chapter.

Mary Dove Shaw

Wendy Crewson Portrays Colter’s Mother

Colter’s mother will be vital to the mystery surrounding his father in season 2. The Shaw family matriarch, Mary Dove, is first mentioned in season 1, episode 1, “Klamath Falls,” in a flashback to Colter’s past. Colter told the local law enforcement officer that his parents were Berkeley professors until an incident with his dad. The audience is officially introduced to Colter’s mom at the end of episode 1 when he visits her house on the way to Colorado Springs. Her presence immediately complicated the Tracker story, as it became clear that her story didn’t add up.

When Colter saw his mother in “Klamath Falls,” he told her that his brother Russell had been trying to contact him, and she told him to ignore it. From the onset, it’s clear that not everyone in Colter’s family is on the same page. Mary Dove intensified the confusion in episode 2, “Missuola.” What happened in that episode set the tone for how she will factor into season 2. “Missoula” revealed that the Shaw family matriarch is hiding something. When someone broke into her house, she called her youngest son for help but acted strangely when he arrived.

Although she said it was nothing, Mary Dove was on edge after the break-in. This was clear when Mary Dove found a carved wooden owl figurine from her husband’s office in her kitchen. It appeared whoever had been in the house knew Mary personally, and she wanted to keep whoever it was a secret from Colter. That said, Colter noticed the details. In Tracker season 2, Colter will need to continue to seek information from his mother, although it’s unlikely he will confront her about things like the affair, which she may not know about.

Dorian Shaw

Melissa Roxburgh Portrays The Shaw Sister

Dorian Shaw, known as Dory, is Colter’s younger sister in Tracker. Melissa Roxburgh debuted as Dory in episode 11, “Beyond the Campus Walls,” toward the end of season 1. A job took Colter to Wyoming, where his sister is a professor, and it was revealed Dory didn’t hear from her brother often. They took some time to talk to one another while he was there, and Colter’s main objective was to fill his sister in about a file he had recovered regarding their dad. It said he had several run-ins with the law and worked for the government.

Colter’s sister was oddly dismissive in season 1, and it will come back around in season 2 after the events in the season finale. In the Tracker season finale, Colter spoke to an old family friend, Lizzy Hawking, after helping return her daughter. Lizzy revealed many things that changed Colter’s understanding of the situation, including that Colter’s sister had withheld crucial information. Colter is interested in his father’s death, and rather than share the information that she had, Dory dismissed Colter. Dory will shape the narrative in season 2 by explaining why she didn’t come clean in season 1.

Dory needs to resolve why she is adamant about forgetting what happened to their father. Either she is so affected by the trauma it caused her that she doesn’t want to talk about it, or she is helping someone else hide vital details and doesn’t want to be found out. Regardless, it was suspicious that Dory spoke to Russell, not Colter, and that she wanted her brothers to make up but found no responsibility in resolving their past. What is clear about Dory is that, like Colter, she doesn’t trust her mother.

Lizzy Hawking

Jennifer Morrison Portrays The Family Friend

Perhaps no one will be more influential to the Tracker season 2 narrative than his family friend, Lizzy Hawking. After Colter returned Lizzy’s missing daughter in the Tracker season 1 finale, Lizzy revealed new information to Colter that had massive implications. She admitted that her mother was having an affair with Colter’s father before he died. Lizzy even revealed that Ashton Shaw was at their house around the time that he died. She claimed that Ashton left a box of documents with her mother before his death, and that she found them after her mom died.

The box of papers could make all the difference to Colter’s work and implicate his sister. Lizzy revealed that after she found Ashton’s paperwork, she sent it to Dory, but Colter’s sister failed to mention it to the reward seeker when she saw him. Lizzy and Dory echo a similar narrative: it is time for Colter to move on, but he is convinced that more is to be discovered. Lizzy will play a massive role in helping Colter find closure, as she was the first person to be honest with him about his father’s death.

In season 2, Hartley promised Jennifer Morrison would return to Tracker to continue to evolve that narrative surrounding Colter’s father’s death. With a short conversation in the season finale, Lizzy revealed more in five minutes than Colter could find out for the entire season. In Colter’s work, a massive part of finding what he is seeking is getting good intel from the people closest to whoever went missing. If Colter’s family continues to hide things, Lizzy is the only person he can turn to for answers. She will be vital to the season 2 narrative.

2

Billie Matalon

Sofia Pernas Portrays The Fellow Reward-Seeker

Billie will shape the Tracker season 2 narrative because she has a hold on her fellow reward seeker. Billie appeared in season 1, episode 6, “Lexington.” She appeared in Kentucky to attempt to find a missing horse and claim a reward. While she was initially competing against Colter for the reward, they eventually decided to work together. More was learned about Billie and Colter’s past as they worked in proximity. It turned out that Billie and Colter had worked together before, but the female reward seeker had conned him out of his portion of the money.

Justin Hartley has confirmed that the Billie Matalon actor Sofia Pernas will return in season 2. It is exciting because Billie provided an interesting romantic connection to the tracker. The pair had a history, but Billie deeply hurt Colter by taking the money and running when he felt connected to her. The pair discussed having dinner to reconnect, but Billie said she had another job and couldn’t stay. It impacted Colter that she chose not to. When she appears in season 2, Billie will undoubtedly have a strong hold on Colter and could help him with his family mystery.

Reenie Green

Fiona Rene Portrays The Team’s Go-To Legal Professional

Reenie Green impacting the season 2 narrative would be a continuation of the character’s perpetual influence. Green was vital to Colter’s team in season 1. She worked as a lawyer and often freelanced for Colter’s team, getting him out of various legal predicaments and even prosecuting some criminals as the season went on. She was the team’s go-to legal professional, so it was interesting at the end of season 1 that Reenie quit her job without explanation. Reenie and Colter had talked about it, but no exposition was given to the audience.

As such, there’s a real chance that Reenie will join the Tracker season 2 team permanently. Initially, Reenie was called to help in episode 1, at which point she told Colter that she wanted to be the first person his team reached out to the next time he’s in legal trouble. Throughout the first season, the lawyer’s involvement in Colter’s operation intensified after the team called her in episode 3. She appeared again in episode 4 to request Colter’s help and worked closely on the case, going beyond her duties. She assisted the investigation again in episodes 5 and 7.

Fiona Rene’s Tracker Appearances

Season 1, Episode 1, “Klamath Falls”

Season 1, Episode 3, “Springland”

Season 1, Episode 4, “Mt. Shasta”

Season 1, Episode 5, “St. Louis”

Season 1, Episode 7, “Chicago”

Season 1, Episode 10, “Into the Wild”

Season 1, Episode 12, “Off the Books”

Season 1, Episode 13, “The Storm.

In episode 7, Reenie was held at gunpoint and then requested Colter’s help again in episode 10. Reenie Green is being worked into the narrative as a more present character. She was an option when the series started, but Reenie gradually became irreplaceable. Since she quit her job in the season finale, her schedule will be open to further her involvement in the reward-seeking she loved and prioritized in season 1. Reenie’s involvement could be so influential that it changes the nature of the show in Tracker season 2.
