Warning: Spoilers ahead for Poison Ivy #24!

The love between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy may have just survived a serious cheating plot, but the question remains how long this will last. Harley and Ivy’s relationship has become a fan-favorite romance since they announced their love in the 2010s. It became so beloved, in fact, that there was massive fan backlash when the two officially broke up. Now the two are back together, but the latest issue of Poison Ivy shows that they nearly fell into a major trope that could have ended the romance for good.

In Poison Ivy #24 by G. Willow Wilson and Haining, Poison Ivy is brought back from the dead after sacrificing herself to save the world from Jason Woodrue’s impending zombie apocalypse. Having cheated death, she reconciles with Harley Quinn. However, Janet-from-HR, a friend of Ivy’s that has been tagging along with her during her adventures, feels guilty hiding a secret from the two.

So, she proclaims that she slept with Ivy during their excursion to a California fungal retreat and kissed Harley after being rescued from Batman. Janet is quick to apologize and claims herself to be “a homewrecker! A seductress!” However, Ivy and Harley’s reactions completely prevent a major shift in their relationship from happening.

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s Relationship Isn’t Perfect, But It’s Worth Saving

But Where Does Janet Stand?

Comic book panel: Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn kiss with Janet from HR between them.

Harley and Ivy are pretty quick to laugh off their intimacy with Janet-from-HR, saying that it’s okay. They’re experienced with tests in their relationship. After all, Harley revealing that she didn’t want to be a full-blown villain anymore is the reason the two broke up in the first place. It was a major secret that upended their relationship, but after getting back together, they saw the good that came with being together and have vowed to preserve it at all costs.

The two even say that it was wrong of them not to tell each other about their intimate moments with Janet. However, as Ivy puts it, “stuff happens. The point is we always come back to each other. To this.” It’s a beautiful moment that shows Ivy and Harley aren’t going to let go of their romance. They’ve experienced what it’s like without each other, and they want to continue to be together to bring out their best selves through the other’s support. It’s still a long road for them, but it’s a path worth taking to let the beauty of their romance prevail.

Could Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy Revisit This Cheating Plot in the Future?

Anything Is Possible, But It’s Not Likely

The biggest question coming from Harley and Ivy being fine with what happened in the past with Janet is whether this plot point will come back into play in the future. After all, Harley Quinn does say that she wouldn’t explain the situation as “fine-fine,” hinting that this tension could be revisited later down the road. However, given how quick they were to kiss after explaining why they weren’t mad, it’s unlikely it will play a factor in a future storyline.

Harley and Ivy clearly want to forgive and work on their flaws to keep their love going. While bumps are bound to happen just like in any relationship, they clearly see their romance as worth saving. So, rather than break it off like last time after Harley revealed her desire to turn to heroism, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are more likely than ever now to keep their love alive by working on their flaws, even if one turns out to be a major cheating plot.
