Why James Gunn’s Bigger Focus On The Daily Planet In Superman Is So Exciting

While seeing all of the superheroes elements of any Superman story is a massive highlight, the Daily Planet aspect of Clark’s mythology is just as important. The Daily Planet is also how crucial characters like Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen come into play, and from all the casting news to their presence on set, it’s evident that the famous news organization will be a focal feature as Clark balances his life as the Man of Steel, but also being a reporter and having the bonds he has with people like Lois and Jimmy.

There have also been various Superman live-action TV shows and movies where the Daily Planet has been allowed to shine more than other iterations, including on Smallville and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures With Superman. Given these have shown off how entertaining and poignant Clark’s ties to the staff are, having this explored in more detail in the DCU is especially exciting. This is doubly true for characters like Ron Troupe and Cat Grant, who have been featured in Superman shows, are finally getting their cinematic dues through the DC Universe.

It will also be fun to see the Daily Planet staff’s growth throughout future DC Universe movies and TV shows, as DC Studios could use them in a lot of ways outside of Superman – potentially having them interact with the staff at the Gotham Gazette, for example. Once Superman completes principal photography, time will tell when Gunn will release the first teaser trailer for the film, as the movie is now only a year away from its theatrical release.
