Emily Blunt’s upcoming return in a sequel to a $326 million hit is a great move, especially after her role in The Fall Guy. Emily Blunt’s acting career spans over two decades, with multiple roles in various genres. She has dabbled in every category, from horror to drama to musicals to comedy. After her breakout role in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006, she went on to star in various films such as The Young Victoria, Gnomeo & Juliet, The Five-Year Engagement, Into the Woods, The Girl on the Train, and more.

Emily Blunt also has several supporting roles in films that add to her impressive career, including Dan in Real Life, Gulliver’s Travels, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and Oppenheimer. Despite her diverse filmography, Emily Blunt is a comedy star at heart. Her most recent film, The Fall Guy, starring alongside Ryan Gosling, certainly reminds viewers of that. The Fall Guy ending even sets up a potential sequel. Although it is not on the table, it is still the perfect occasion to announce Emily Blunt’s return for a special sequel, largely anticipated by fans of the first film.

Meryl Streep Is Also Returning, But Not Anne Hathaway

Recently, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was announced, with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt reprising their roles. The premise involves Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley reaching out to Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-ranking executive, to help save Miranda’s failing magazine. However, it does not seem like Anne Hathaway will return for the sequel, a surprise, considering she is the main character of the first film. The author, Lauren Weisberger, wrote a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada called Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Weisberger’s sequel still revolves around Andy, even though Miranda appears as an important character.

However, The Devil Wears Prada 2 could still be a great sequel. The premise has a lot of potential, and there is even a third novel called When Life Gives You Lululemons that does not include Andy, focusing on Emily Charlton and two new characters instead. Therefore, with the right script, cast, and crew, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has the potential to be a worthwhile follow-up. It might not be as iconic as the first film, but it is certainly not doomed, and it could very well become a great addition to Emily Blunt’s filmography.

The Fall Guy Was A Reminder Of How Great Emily Blunt Is In Comedy Roles

Emily Blunt Will Always Be A Comedic Star

The Devil Wears Prada 2 announcement is great news after Emily Blunt’s most recent film, The Fall Guy. In later years, Blunt focused more on serious films, such as A Quiet Place, A Quiet Place Part II, and Oppenheimer, with the last one garnering an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Although she did not win, Oppenheimer‘s success at the Oscars broke records. The Fall Guy is an excellent reminder that Emily Blunt is a comedic queen. The movie also proves that she has not lost her comedic talent and is ready to reprise her role as Emily Charlton.

The Devil Wears Prada Is Still Emily Blunt’s Best Comedy Role

Emily Charlton Is An Unforgettable Character

Emily Blunt boasts a long list of impressive acting credits that includes an Academy Award nomination, but there is something about her breakout role as Emily Charlton that makes it her best comedy character. In fact, Emily Charlton might also possibly be one of Blunt’s best roles altogether. Emily Charlton is one of the biggest highlights in The Devil Wears Prada—she is funny, but the narrative paints her in a way that makes the audience sympathize with her. She is the perfect comedic relief needed in between the drama of Andy Sachs’ storyline.

Emily Charlton is also critical to the overall narrative and a crucial part of Andy Sachs’ redemption at the end. She has the whole package as an essential character and as a funny person. The Devil Wears Prada 2 will surely concoct excellent comedic moments for Emily Charlton, especially considering the original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, will write the script for the sequel. However, not all sequels are automatically good movies, and most are unnecessary. The expectations are high, and McKenna will have to write a compelling narrative that is just as funny and dramatic as the first film was.

In light of what Blunt brought to The Fall Guy, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now highly anticipated, but it was not always that way. Interestingly, Anne Hathaway was vehemently against it when she shared her blunt thoughts on a potential Devil Wears Prada 2. That is most likely why she will not return, which creates a big Anne Hathaway problem. It’s unclear how the sequel would work without Andy Sachs, but the concept of a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada remains promising nonetheless.
