Warning: Spoilers for My Adventures with Superman #2!

Superman and his amazing friends Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane finally have a fitting name to summarize decades of friendship. For as long as Clark Kent has existed on the page, he’s had Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen by his side. All three debuted in 1938, after all (though Jimmy’s debut was more retroactive). After all these years, there is one thing that has defined the trio’s dynamic: danger.

Their bond through a disregard of being endangered is spotlighted in My Adventures with Superman #2 by Josie Campbell and Pablo M. Collar. In the issue, Jimmy and Lois declare themselves “Team Throw Yourself into Danger,” and they officially invite Clark into their club.

The issue’s story may not be part of DC’s main continuity, instead being part of its own animated continuity, but Team Throw Yourself into Danger” is a name too perfect for the DC Universe to pass up for its official canon. A glance at the trio’s history in the official DC canon will make that fact painfully obvious.

Superman, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen Are “Team Throw Yourself into Danger

And Always Have Been

Comic book panels: Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen, and Lois Lane make a plan in an office.

In any iteration of Superman’s adventures, canon or part of an alternate universe, readers can pick out a moment of either Jimmy Olsen or Lois Lane throwing themselves in the thick of danger. Superman does such things every day, so he’s expected to fling himself into peril, especially when his powers (mostly) ensure his safety. However, seeing the same determination from two mere humans might be more surprising. That is, if those humans’ names weren’t Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, two humans with no powers or armor to protect them.

Traditionally, Lois and Jimmy are depicted as throwing themselves into danger, either to get Superman’s attention or with the expectation that Superman will save them. For instance, John Byrne’s Man of Steel #2 was quick to establish the depths that Lois was willing to go to just have a conversation with Superman. She does just that by staging a damsel in distress moment for herself – plunging her car underwater while still inside. That is just one example of what kind of danger both Jimmy and Lois put themselves in for Superman on a regular basis.

They Throw Themselves in Danger to Help People

That’s another thing about Jimmy and Lois: sometimes, putting themselves in danger has nothing to do with Superman. Even if they risk their own deaths, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane usually put themselves in harm’s way because it’s the right thing to do. Whether it’s to catch a hot story or it’s to save someone’s life, these two have a natural urge to endanger themselves for the greater good. Maybe it’s a case of Superman rubbing off on them, but they certainly live up to their nickname of “Team Throw Yourself into Danger.
