Warning! Contains spoilers for Outsiders #9!

The Bat-Family usually isn’t known for using overly destructive weapons. While Batman has his iconic gadgets like his Batarangs, and Nightwing has his escrima sticks, that’s usually as far as it goes. But Batwing took weaponry to the next level by taking ownership of a cannon capable of destroying the multiverse.

Batwing takes control of this devastating new weapon in Outsiders #9 by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Robert Carey. The Outsiders become aware of an incredible weapon known only as the Cannon. This Cannon is capable of completely obliterating the multiverse, leaving only one universe still alive, and now Luke Fox is in control of it.

With the Lords of Chaos and Lords of Order fighting over ownership of the gun, Luke feels the only way to stop them is to take control of it himself. He leaves the factions with two options: either Luke has ownership of the “gun”, or he destroys it. Not wanting the Cannon to be destroyed, Doctor Fate and Kalrion give Batwing ownership, and Luke Fox officially becomes the most powerful member of the Bat-Family in one fell swoop.

Batwing’s New Cannon Can Destroy the Entire DC Multiverse

It Literally Destroys Canon

The Cannon That Can Destroy The Multiverse

The Cannon was born from the fabric of the universe, something that just appeared one day to solve an impossible problem. The Lords of Chaos want to use the weapon to create more random destruction, and the Lords of Order want to use the Cannon to prune everything in excess to bring the DC Comics multiverse back to a single universe. This makes the Cannon likely the most dangerous weapon that DC has ever seen, but instead of allowing the Lords of Order or the Lords of Chaos to gain ownership of the gun, Luke Fox has taken it for himself.

With Luke Fox in control of the Cannon, he’s not just the most dangerous member of the Bat-Family, but the most dangerous person in the DC Universe. With the Cannon under Luke’s command, he could completely obliterate any universe he wants. If Luke had this during the events of Dark Nights: Metal, for example, he could’ve utterly destroyed the entire Dark Multiverse with no problem, which would’ve saved everyone a lot of trouble. It’s strange to think that an oft-forgotten member of the Bat-Family would suddenly hold the Multiverse in his hands, but that’s exactly what’s happened in this issue of Outsiders.

Dr. Fate Explains How The Cannon Works

As Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family do their best to keep order in Gotham and Blüdhaven, Luke Fox is exploring the true dark mysteries of the DC Universe. While there’s no denying that Batman has saved plenty of lives in Gotham and across the DCU, Luke now has the ability to save the entire universe if necessary. If another monster like the Anti-Monitor or the armies of the Dark Multiverse ever return, it won’t be the core members of the Bat-Family who have the right weapon to stop them, but Batwing, the most powerful character in the DC Universe.
