The Boys season 4 only has one more episode to go but still has several unresolved plot threads and questions to address. After having a relatively slower start compared to its predecessors, The Boys season 4 found its pace by episode 4 and began building up to a climactic conclusion. However, even with the season’s finale around the corner, it feels like the Amazon series still has to unpack a lot before it begins its endgame with season 5.

Unlike the previous seasons, which focused on balancing supe action with political intrigue, The Boys season 4 has focused more on embracing the political aspects of its overarching narrative to pave the way for a slam-bang season 5. Owing to this, many of the underlying mysteries after The Boys season 4’s episode 7 revolve around the torrid political landscape and power struggles inside and outside Vought. Since characters like Butcher, Ryan, and Starlight have gone through significant transformations throughout the season, some questions also revolve around their role in the series’ future.

What Powers Does Butcher Have (If Any)?

And How Do His Powers Connect To Kessler?

In The Boys season 4’s episode 4, Homelander somehow overpowers Ezekiel and brutally murders him, which hints that he might still be supe. However, after the episode 4 incident, The Boys‘ fourth installment maintains an air of mystery surrounding Butcher’s powers, making it hard not to wonder how he took down Ezekiel with ease. Since Butcher was temporarily a supe in The Boys season 3, he may have retained some of the abilities he initially acquired. If this is true, he might have super strength and the ability to throw heat beams out of his eyes.

However, given how The Boys season 4 has hinted that his powers are somehow connected to his alter ego, Kessler, he has likely acquired new abilities. Since the season, so far, has also not revealed anything about the worms crawling underneath Billy Butcher’s skin, they might somehow be linked with his powers. Hopefully, The Boys season 4’s finale will not give viewers the cold shoulder and reveal the truth about Butcher’s mysterious supe powers.

Will Hughie Realize Starlight Is A Shapeshifter?

And Will He Realize This Before It Is Too Late?

Although something seems off about Starlight almost throughout The Boys season 4’s episode 7, it is hard to put a finger on why she is behaving differently. The episode ends with a shocking twist that reveals Starlight, who has been with Hughie all this while, is a shapeshifter. Meanwhile, the real Starlight has been imprisoned in an unknown location. Even though the episode does not disclose the shapeshifter’s motives, it seems evident that Sister Sage recruited her to destroy the blackmail the boys had on Neuman.

Since the shapeshifter specifically targets Starlight, it also seems likely that Sage plans to use her as a pawn in a larger scheme. What this scheme will be is still a mystery the season’s finale will hopefully answer. Before the shapeshifter executes Sister Sage’s final plan, however, Hughie may or may not learn the truth about her real identity, which could define the narrative direction in which The Boys season 5 will head in.

Will Neuman Be President When The Boys Season 4 Ends?

Or Will The Boys Find A Way To Eradicate Her?

Sister Sage seemingly asks the shapeshifter to destroy the blackmail against Victoria Neuman because she hopes to have Neuman as the new president. With the blackmail destroyed, the boys would have nothing against Neuman, giving her no solid reason to spare them in the show’s finale. However, since Neuman is still the Vice President-Elect, it is hard not to be curious about how Sister Sage will get Robert Singer assassinated to ensure Neuman’s rise to the presidency.

Given how the boys are also aware that Singer’s life is in danger, will they do something to protect him from getting assassinated so that Neuman does not become the president? Or, will they resort to an even more extreme plan and kill Neuman before she can become the president? Since the boys’ previous efforts to eradicate Neuman have failed, they will have to find a way to recreate the drug to be able to effectively kill her.

Will Ryan Finally Leave Homelander?

Or Become More Like Him?

Billy Butcher finds new hope in The Boys season 4’s episode 7 when Ryan defies Vought’s executives on live television and confesses how much he misses his mother during the holiday season. After seeing Ryan stand up for himself, Butcher feels proud, believing he will finally leave Homelander. However, Ryan’s defiance towards Vought may not be as straightforward as it seems. Homelander grew more unhinged and erratic in The Boys season 3 after he started defying Vought’s orders, realizing how no one else could control him because of his physical prowess.

If Ryan is starting to feel the same, Homelander has effectively turned him into a replica of himself. This would mean that Ryan will listen to nobody in The Boys season 4’s finale — not even Billy Butcher. However, since Ryan still seems to have some goodness in him and is not as far gone as Homelander, Butcher might convince him to distance himself from Homelander before it is too late.

How Will The Boys Create The Virus Without Sameer’s Help?

Is Kimiko Infected Leg Enough For Them To Recreate It?

As seen in The Boys season 4’s episode 7, even Sameer was struggling to recreate the supe virus with the limited resources in Frenchie’s warehouse lab. Now that he has escaped, the boys will have to find another way to create the virus because they cannot kill a supe like Victoria Neuman without it. Since Frenchie has a lot of experience in pharmacology and was even helping Sameer, he might be able to recreate the virus. Frenchie also has access to Kimiko’s detached leg that was infected by the virus when Sameer injected her with it in episode 7.

Using the leg, Frenchie can culture the virus in the lab and inject Neuman with it to get her out of the way. However, with no one else to help him with the process, Frenchie might take some time to recreate it. Given how the boys have a ticking clock over their heads with the elections’ results around the corner, it seems like Frenchie does not have enough to create the virus again.

Has A-Train Escaped For Good?

Or Will Homelander Catch Him?

A-Train’s journey towards redemption continues in The Boys season 4’s episode 7 when he helps the boys overpower The Deep and the new Black Noir. However, this exposes him as the mole, forcing him to go into hiding before Homelander learns the truth about his betrayal. Therefore, A-Train visits Ashley for the last time, asking her if she wishes to leave with him. When Ashley declines the offer, A-Train flees and likely removes his tracking chip before heading to his safe house.

Even though A-Train has redeemed himself by helping the boys, it seems unlikely that his arc in the series is over. If Ashley lands in trouble in season 4’s finale, he might return to help her. However, if he does return, he will have to tread carefully because Homelander will not think twice before getting him out of the way after his betrayal.

Will Starlight’s Powers Finally Return?

How Else Will She Be Able To Stop The Shapeshifter?

The Boys season 4’s episode 7 seems to give Starlight the perfect opportunity to self-reflect and understand how she can get her powers back. Her feud with Firecracker in the previous episodes made her question whether she wanted to be a supe anymore, eventually leading to her losing her powers. Now that she is trapped inside a decrepit house and must return to her home before the shapeshifter causes even more damage, she will have to confront her identity and reconsider her role as a supe to be able to reclaim her abilities.

However, there is also a slight possibility that she will not get her powers back, allowing the shapeshifter to continue wreaking havoc unchecked. As all the underlying The Boys season 4 mysteries suggest, the show still has a lot to unpack in the season’s final episode. Since The Boys has another season before it ends its run for good, season 4 will likely leave some of these questions unanswered. Hopefully, it will make enough space for intriguing theories and speculations.
