WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1!

Amanda Waller’s power-stealing AMAZO robots, Task Force VII, have just revealed a major weakness that the Justice League could potentially exploit to turn the tide in Absolute Power. This flaw highlights the immense power of DC’s true heroes and suggests the possibility of Task Force VII turning against Waller. If they were to join the side of the heroes, it would be a wild and unexpected twist.

Leah Williams, Caitlin Yarsky, and Alex Guimarães’ Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 kicks off with the official debut of the Last Son, Waller’s Superman-inspired Amazo robot. In this issue, Waller orders the Last Son to use the iconic Justice League villain, Parasite, to hunt down and drain the powers of the already weakened Shazam and Mary Marvel.

Waller coerces Parasite by taking away his armband, which suppresses his unquenchable thirst for energy and power. Despite Parasite’s cooperation and success in tracking down Billy and Mary, the Last Son turns on him, killing the villain. What follows reveals a major flaw in Waller’s Task Force VII.

Absolute Power: The Last Son Proves Amanda Waller’s Task Force VII Has 1 MAJOR Flaw

Absolute Power Task Force VII #1-1

After the Last Son kills Parasite, the Amazo begins to glitch, talking nonsense and physically twitching, temporarily losing control of its operating systems. Later, during a fight with Black Adam, the Last Son asks, “Why do I hurt?” Adam provides a game-changing insight, revealing that the Amazo has a “passenger” within him. He explains that “When you thieve powers, you also glean other attributes.” Black Adam is effectively saying that the Last Son is also gaining the consciences of the heroes it has stolen from. As a result, when it commits acts of violence, it contradicts these heroes’ morals, leading to operational malfunctions.

In addition to its exploitability, this flaw also confirms just how powerful DC’s heroes truly are. While the Justice League and others possess immense physical power, it is the strength of their morals and values that are highlighted in this scenario. The Last Son had previously stolen powers from the Superman Family, absorbing not just their abilities but also their strong moral code. The Supers are notably against killing and extreme acts of violence, and these inherited morals are causing the Last Son to malfunction. This underscores the Super-Family’s values as one of their greatest strengths.

From Foe to Ally: Task Force VII’s Potential to Join DC’s Heroes in Their Fight Against Waller

Considering the Last Son’s main purpose is to drain heroes of their powers, the flaw of it developing a conscience will only become more pronounced and exploitable as it absorbs more heroes’ abilities. Hence, the Amazo’s sense of right and wrong will grow stronger over time, potentially leading it to realize the immorality of its actions. This could result in the Last Son and other members of Task Force VII turning against Waller and joining DC’s heroes. Such a development would be wild and exciting, undoubtedly adding complexity and intrigue to the Justice League’s battle against Amanda Waller.
