Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 has gotten a promising update from writer and producer Seth Rogen, who revealed a major production update for the upcoming film. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem ended with Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael attending high school with April, becoming recognized for saving the city from Superfly. The story is going to continue in a sequel scheduled for release on October 9, 2026, with a new TV series bridging the gap between films, Tales of the TMNT, set to begin on August 9, 2024.

Speaking with ComicBook, however, Rogen offered a promising update for TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2, revealing the movie already has a title that he’s not allowed to say. The writer and producer also revealed storyboarding for the whole film is done, meaning they know where the story is going to go moving forward. Check out what Rogen had to say below:

There is a title, and it’s awesome, but I don’t think I can say it. But when it came up on the screen, I stood up and cheered. There’s an animatic — there’s a storyboarded version of the whole movie, so they’re working on it right now.

What TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2’s Update Means For The Movie

The fact TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2‘s story is already finished means the direction of this new iteration of the Turtles is already set in stone. There is a plan in place for how the franchise is going to evolve moving forward, likely informed by Mutant Mayhem‘s post-credits scene, teasing the arrival of Shredder. Since he’ll no doubt be the villain in the upcoming movie, it’s already promising to be more exciting than the first. The progress already being made also helps enhance its potential, since the whole film is already planned from start to finish.

Alongside the movie itself, it’s also possible the upcoming Tales of the TMNT show will offer context for what to expect in the film. If that ends up being the case, then some elements like Shredder could be teased earlier than expected, the movie coming off the heels of the series in a more direct way. However, since the film’s status as a direct sequel is important, it’s unlikely the show is going to have long-standing repercussions the movie has to address. Instead, it sounds like the film will be an exciting follow-up only requiring the original to understand it.

With the movie making strong progress already, Rogen’s update is a good sign for the future of the franchise’s newest rendition. Since there are many exciting twists and turns that will probably happen in the film, this latest update is a sure sign that it will be just as exciting a film as the first. With plenty of directions for the movie to go to, especially with a famous villain like Shredder, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 seems like it will be a worthwhile sequel to the previous installment.
