After having been on The Boys since the very beginning, Black Noir and Black Noir II star Nathan Mitchell shares what it was like to finally unmask himself in the ongoing season. While the original Black Noir met his fate in The Boys season 3, it didn’t take long for the void to be filled in season 4. Even though the public thinks it is the real Black Noir, it is actually a whole different person donning the costume as Vought hired an actor to take over.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Mitchell, who plays both versions of Black Noir, looked back on the fact that he got to remove his mask in The Boys season 4 and have his face be featured on screen. When asked if it was unnerving to finally get to this point in the series where any iteration of Black Noir got to unmask himself, Mitchell described it as a new experience, sharing the following:

I think as an actor, whenever you’re joining a show, there’s an adjustment period of figuring out the tone, the pacing, the style and the vibe of it. That was kind of my experience when we shot the scene with my mask off for the first time, because even though I’ve been on the show, it is a new thing that I’m doing for myself. I’m trying to think of the right word, but it was a new experience for me and there’s a feeling out an adjustment process and thankfully, it went well and I hope I get to do that a lot more.

Why The Black Noir II Twist Is One Of The Boys Season 4’s Best Plots

Black Noir II Has Enhanced The Show’s Comic Relief.

Vought secretly casting an actor to play Black Noir is perhaps one of the strongest ideas in The Boys season 4. With the way that the superhero concept has been corporatized in The Boys world, it makes sense to have a major company like Vought refuse to let the public know that Homelander killed Black Noir. Because of the reputation that The Seven has to maintain, along with Vought, it would have been out of character if they had declared to the world that Black Noir was now dead.

The Boys season 4 has introduced an all-new version of Black Noir, and here is how the character shapes up to the original member of The Seven.

Even though season 4 has progressively gotten darker for every episode, the Black Noir II twist has also added an element of dark comedy this year. Having an outsider come into The Seven and literally be informed that they can’t emote or speak also added more stakes because The Boys character has to be careful with what he does in public. But it is also fascinating to see how Black Noir II is witnessing the inner makings of The Seven and how he reacts to the so-called superheroes.

The bigger question, as the season 4 finale is approaching, is what else is in store for Black Noir II. Given how major events have been transpiring over the last few weeks, time will tell how this will affect him. To find out what will happen to Black Noir II next, viewers will have to catch The Boys season 4 finale less than a week from now.

The Boys season 4 finale will debut on Thursday, July 18, on Prime Video.
