Dexter: Original Sin has rounded out its cast with nine new roles, including Dexter’s biological and foster mothers. Set 15 years before the events of the original series, previous casting announcements have already revealed that Shadow and Bone’s Patrick Gibson will be playing the younger version of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan, opposite Christian Slater as his foster father Harry. Other surprising cast announcements have also included Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) as Miami Metro Police Captain Aaron Spencer, and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Dexter’s new boss, CSI Chief Tanya Martin.

Per Deadline, the Dexter: Original Sin cast has added nine new faces in the form of Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos), Brittany Allen (The Boys), Randy Gonzalez (Bloodline), Aaron Jennings (Pure Genius), Raquel Justice (One Day at a Time), Jasper Lewis (V/H/S), Carlo Mendez (The Bay), Isaac Gonzalez Rossi (That’s Amor) and Roberto Sanchez (Palm Royale). Allen, previously known for playing the Supe Popclaw on The Boys, is set to play Dexter’s biological mother, Laura Moser, while Lewis will play his adopted mother, Dorris.

Audiences May Not Know Everything About Dexter’s Mom

While Allen’s casting as Dexter’s biological mother may be surprising, given that the original show already covered her brutal murder in some depth, it is likely the new Dexter prequel will continue providing flashbacks to his formative years. However, Allen’s Laura Moser is not the only familiar name to be revealed in the latest casting announcements, as both Hector Estrada (Mendez) and Santos Jimenez (Gonzalez) are also characters audiences have met previously.

As the drug lord and his accomplice responsible for Laura’s brutal killing, Hall’s Dexter would eventually come to dispatch his unique form of justice to the older versions of the characters originally played by Nestor Serrano and Tony Amendola. Given that the original show has already provided a fairly extensive account of Laura’s death at their hands, bringing their roles back for the prequel series would suggest there are still more secrets to be discovered about Dexter’s past.

Perhaps most fascinating, however, is the addition of Lewis’ Dorris Morgan, a character who only appeared sporadically in the original show. According to Dexter season 1, Dorris died of cancer when Deborah Morgan was only 16 years of age, which is roughly around the age that Molly Brown’s version of the character should be during the events of the new spinoff. As such, Dorris’ death may form a crucial plotline for Dexter: Original Sin, with its titular serial killer being forced to watch a second mother figure die before his eyes.
