Warning: Contains spoilers for X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1!!

One of the X-Men is positioning herself as the bright spot in the center of an endless night. Few people understand vampirism like Jubilee, who was lucky enough to be cured of the dark curse, and now she’s ready to pass on that hope to everyone caught in the ruthless “Blood Hunt.” Her mutant abilities are a powerful weapon against blood-drinkers, but she’d rather save lives than take them.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1 – written by Preeti Chhibber, with art from Enid Balám – offers a look at Jubilation Lee’s conflicting feelings about vampires. She’s acutely aware of the danger they pose, but she knows more than anyone that vampirism doesn’t have to be eternal. Through incredible strength and plenty of help from others, she managed to survive her brush with undeath and even remain a hero until she was cured.

While other heroes are killing to survive, Jubilee wants to extend the same helping hand she received and save as many people as possible – including vampires.

Jubilee’s Experience As A Vampire Is Her Best Weapon In “Blood Hunt”

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1 by Preeti Chhibber, Enid Balám, Jim Campbell, and Ariana Maher

Jubilee fights vampires and offers one a way to be saved.

In terms of superpowers and their effectiveness against vampires, Jubilee has all the luck. Her lumikinetic blasts encompass everything the creatures fear: light. Culling the vampire population should be a breeze for her, given that she has vampiric kryptonite at her literal fingertips and already knows their other weaknesses, but it isn’t that simple. She knows there’s a life after vampirism and is quick to offer it, even to those who appear to be embracing their monstrous urges. Moreover, she’s personally familiar with the feeling of desperation and how hard it was to “resist the hunger,” leaving her incredibly empathetic.

Empathy is Jubilee’s true weapon in “Blood Hunt.” It positions her to save countless lives, as she’s not only protecting the living, but searching for a way to bring vampires back from the undead. Some are too wrapped up in their own power, but others, like the newly-turned Sonal, are willing to listen. Jubilee leads Sonal to the Forgiven, a group of vampires who refuse to drink human blood, and plans to make her one of many. Understandably, many heroes are trying to save civilian lives, but Jubilee is working to solve the problem of “Blood Hunt” from both sides.

Jubilee Is Willing To Risk Her Own Life to Save Vampires

Her Efforts Could Turn The Tide

Jubilee was more fortunate than most vampires. She was cured by Quentin Quire (Kid Omega), but many others will live with the curse forever. The Forgiven have accepted this and still found a way to do good, and their numbers will grow substantially if Jubilation Lee is successful in her efforts. Marvel’s heroes won’t be in the fight alone – they’ll have vampires working with them. Jubilee, the X-Men’s personal firecracker, is using her empathy and undying hope to ensure that the world survives “Blood Hunt” with as few casualties as possible.
