Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Boys season 4, episode 7!

Sister Sage mentions that there is one The Boys character who Homelander will never defeat in season 4, episode 7, and here’s who she could be referring to. Homelander is the most powerful supe in the universe of The Boys so far, with no other supe or human posing a major threat to Vought’s premiere superhero on their own. However, Sister Sage’s comment in The Boys season 4, episode 7 implies that there is someone out there who could defeat Homelander, with many fans scratching their heads over who this mysterious The Boys character could be.

The Boys season 4 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed superhero series now releasing on the streaming service. The Boys season 4 picks up right where The Boys season 3 ended, with the titular team attempting to stop Victoria Neuman from becoming the Vice President of the United States while Billy Butcher continues attempting to kill Homelander in secret. Meanwhile, Homelander and Sister Sage are cooking up a terrifying plan, and Sage believes that there is only one person who could stand in their way.

Sister Sage Likely Meant Homelander Can Never Defeat His Inner Self

Homelander’s Ego Is His Greatest Weakness

During an argument with Homelander after he decides to side with Firecracker, Sister Sage says that “you can systematically eliminate anyone who gets in your way, but there is one person you will never, ever defeat.” There are several theories about which The Boys season 4 supe this character could be referring to, but it seems most likely that Sage is referring to Homelander himself.

Despite being the most powerful person on Earth, Homelander is constantly battling his inner self. Homelander has almost everything that he could ever want, but his desire to be loved and accepted is driving him to tear everything apart. Even when Homelander is held up as a king by the other supes on The Seven, Homelander isn’t happy. Homelander’s ego and lack of love is the main drive behind everything that he does, and since this leads to him making so many bad decisions, Sister Sage knows that Homelander is his own worst enemy.

This makes even more sense considering the context of the situation. Right before Sage says this, Homelander tells Sage to leave The Seven and return home, with Firecracker having talked him out of Sage’s plan. Sage most likely knows the sexual relationship that is going on between Homelander and Firecracker, and this statement is highlighting that Homelander’s urges are getting in the way of his plan. The only way for Homelander to be successful in this plan would be for him to defeat himself and become disciplined, something Sage knows will never happen.

Sage Might Have Meant That Homelander Can Never Defeat Butcher

There Are Too Many Obstacles

While it seems most likely that Sage’s comment is referring to Homelander himself, it is also possible that she could be saying that Homelander will never beat Butcher. Throughout the show, Billy Butcher has been the one who is most consistently dedicated to Homelander’s downfall, with him almost even killing the supe after Butcher gains powers from Temp V in season 3. Until Homelander kills Butcher, Butcher will never stop coming for him, and Sister Sage knows this.

This same episode of The Boys even features a scene in which Homelander explains that he can’t kill Butcher due to The Boys having a link to the CIA. Sister Sage could be saying that Homelander will never be able to overcome this CIA connection, meaning that Butcher is basically unkillable. It is also possible that Butcher’s influence on Ryan could also be inseparable from Homelander’s son, meaning that no matter how hard Homelander tries to turn Ryan into a monster, Butcher’s influence will always negate Homelander.

The Boys is easily one of the most violent comic book series of all time, with each death more gruesome than the last. Here are the 10 most shocking!

Only 1 The Boys Character Could Actually Defeat Homelander

Ryan Could Kill Vought’s Premiere Supe

If Sister Sage is talking about a literal physical fight, then there is another supe that could defeat Homelander: Ryan. Ryan is the only supe who has powers that even come close to matching Homelander, meaning that one day he could end up killing him. It is unlikely that Homelander would kill his own son, meaning that Ryan has the best shot out of anyone to take Homelander down. Sage could foresee Ryan rising up against Homelander after his rebellion during the Vought Christmas special, setting up a heroic future for Ryan in The Boys.
