Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire introduced a Titan ability even stronger than Godzilla’s atomic breath. Whereas monsters like Kong have to rely on their own strength and agility to win fights, some of the Monsterverse’s Titans enjoy inherent powers that they can use to their advantage in combat. Over the years, the Monsterverse has introduced a handful of powers for its Titans, such as King Ghidorah’s gravity beams, Rodan’s fiery attack, and the Ion Dragon’s acid spit. But for the longest time, there’s been the impression that Godzilla possesses the most potent ability of them all.

In addition to his colossal strength, Godzilla boasts an extremely destructive breath attack capable of doing harm to even the most formidable opponents. Just how strong it is was on display in Godzilla vs. Kong when he used it to blast a hole all the way through to the Monsterverse’s Hollow Earth world. While it would be easy to assume that just like how Godzilla is the strongest Titan, his atomic breath is the most powerful ability in the Monsterverse. However, a development in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’s ending has indicated otherwise.

Shimo’s Frost Bite Blast Is The Strongest Ability In The Monsterverse

Shimo’s Ice Breath Is Incredibly Powerful

As powerful as the atomic breath is, it falls short of the capabilities of Shimo’s signature attack. Officially recognized as “the frost bite blast” by Godzilla x Kong merchandise, the power serves as Shimo’s answer to the atomic breath during the movie’s final showdown. Its effectiveness in dealing with Godzilla was demonstrated when Shimo’s ice breath successfully froze Godzilla. Godzilla broke free after receiving help from Mothra, but being immobilized by Shimo is proof of its efficiency in combat. If Shimo can instantly freeze an opponent as large as Godzilla, it’s hard to imagine there being anything in the Monsterverse that can withstand the effects of the frost bite blast.

Interestingly, the frost bite blast is so much more than just a weapon to be used against other monsters – and ultimately, that’s what sets it apart from other Titan powers. As confirmed by Godzilla x Kong, Shimo is to blame for the Ice Age. The movie shed light on how she did that by showing Shimo firing her frost bite blast into the sky. Apparently, by projecting massive amounts of cold energy into the atmosphere, Shimo can turn the entire surface of the Earth into a frozen wasteland. A single blast of Godzilla’s atomic breath may be able to puncture a hole in the Earth, but can’t upset the planet’s entire ecosystem and send species all over the world into extinction.

Shimo’s Frost Bite Blast Could Be The Key To Beating Godzilla

Shimo Can Freeze Godzilla

Shimo's ice breath

The extreme cold temperatures of the frost bite blast, combined with Shimo’s strength, makes her the Titan with perhaps the best chance of beating Godzilla in a fair fight. When it comes to raw power, Shimo is close to – if not slightly above – Godzilla’s level. Her speed compared to Godzilla appears to be her biggest weakness against him. But, that could be offset by the frost bite blast. Since it’s been confirmed that she can temporarily put Godzilla in stasis, that could be enough to give her an edge if they were to ever come to blows again. But as long as Godzilla and Kong remain on the same side, the question of whether Shimo can really beat Godzilla may remain unanswered.
