The Garfield Movie brought Jim Davis’ iconic temperamental housecat to the big screen once again. Written by David Reynolds (Finding Nemo), Mark Torgrove (Raising Hope), and Paul A. Kaplan (George Lopez), the movie was helmed by The Emperor’s New Groove and Chicken Little director Mark Dindal. The movie sees its titular tabby reunited with his estranged father, only to be swept into a heist scheme by his father’s partner-turned-nemesis, Jinx.

Screen Rant is happy to present a behind-the-scenes clip from the home release of Garfield: The Movie. In it, audiences can see Garfield: The Movie cast members including Chris Pratt, Harvey Guillen, and Hannah Waddingham in action, with fun shots showcasing their voice performances. The Garfield Movie’s Success Is A Great Argument Against Chris Pratt Voice Fatigue

The Garfield Movie had a long road to the movie theater, but one of the largest pre-release topics of conversation about the film was the 2021 announcement that Chris Pratt would voice the iconic cat. It was, at the very least, unfortunate timing. The news came just months after Pratt was announced as the new voice of Mario for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. But as much as Pratt’s apparent monopoly on beloved characters seemed to ruffle some feathers, The Garfield Movie’s box office success suggested that general moviegoing audiences felt otherwise.

If that weren’t enough, even Garfield creator Jim Davis approved of Chris Pratt’s voice for the film. However some might have expected Garfield’s voice to sound, it’s hard to beat a good review by the character’s creator. Interestingly, Pratt won Davis over mostly by being himself, since The Garfield Movie director Mark Dindal admittedly imagined Pratt’s voice coming out of the character and wanted the actor to turn in a natural performance. In addition to the movie’s box-office success, Davis’ (and Dindal’s) blessing is a big win of its own.

Although Pratt’s casting as both Mario and Garfield caused a stir on the internet, the reactionary posts and tweets died down after each movie was released. With The Garfield Movie’s ending keeping the door open for future stories and The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 on the way, it will be interesting to see how audiences react to Pratt’s return. In both cases, a sequel has a strong chance to recapture the success of the first effort.
