These 10 characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine should appear in Star Trek: Prodigy season 3. Star Trek: Prodigy is geared toward a younger audience but is nevertheless enjoyed by fans of all ages, partly due to the show’s use of nostalgic nods to previous Star Trek shows and movies from bygone eras. Among Star Trek: Prodigy’s characters in season 1 is a hologram version of Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), who serves as the USS Protostar crew’s young mentor. In addition, the real Admiral Janeway is also central to Star Trek: Prodigy, which makes the series feel like a sequel to Star Trek: Voyager.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 brings in even more characters from Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Admiral Janeway and Hologram Janeway both return to guide the young crew of the USS Protostar, who are now Starfleet hopefuls. Having served as Deep Space 9’s Chief Medical Officer, Bashir could give Star Trek: Prodigy’s science-loving Brikar Rok-Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui) much-wanted tutoring, since she is constantly looking for new ways to learn. Bashir has a complicated history with Section 31, and Star Trek: Prodigy could also use Bashir to introduce Starfleet’s shadowy organization.

Colonel Kira Nerys

The Bajoran commander’s addition to Star Trek: Prodigy would add devotion and historical context

Colonel Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) served as a Bajoran liaison and later became the commanding officer of the station in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. As a Bajoran, Kira would add even more diversity to Star Trek: Prodigy’s cast of characters. Calling back to Kira’s involvement in the Bajoran uprising and the Dominion War would align with Star Trek: Prodigy’s tendency to hint at previous canon Star Trek events. As the no-nonsense commander of Deep Space 9, Kira is similar to Star Trek: Prodigy’s young Vulcan Maj’el (Michaela Dietz). Kira could offer Maj’el insightful advice on balancing emotion and duty.

The greedy but lovable Ferengi would boost Star Trek: Prodigy’s humor and alien diversity

Although he had questionable morals and participated in suspicious (sometimes illegal) activities during his time on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Quark (Armin Shimerman) is quite generous by Ferengi standards. Despite frequent squabbles, Quark earned the trust and loyalty of nearly all Deep Space 9 crew members over the years. As a proud Ferengi, Quark would add humor, showcase the value of friendships with opposing parties on Star Trek: Prodigy, and add alien diversity to the cast. He could show Rok-Tahk, who strictly follows Starfleet regulations, the importance of sometimes breaking the rules.

Who knows more about succeeding in Starfleet against all odds than Nog?

Lieutenant Nog (Aron Eisenberg) was one of the Ferengi who changed Star Trek history on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Nog was the first Ferengi to attend Starfleet Academy and later became a war hero. About a decade after Star Trek: DS9 ended, Nog would be in his 30s in Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 and would probably have been promoted past his last known rank of Lieutenant. Nog can relate to and inspire the USS Prodigy’s Ensigns as the Ferengi himself was a great Starfleet Academy Cadet.

Jake Sisko (Cirroc Lofton) was left behind on Deep Space Nine when his father, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) became one with the Prophets of Bajor. Jake is still waiting for his canonical comeback to Star Trek, and Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 could be the ideal place for his return. As a writer and reporter for the Federation News Service, Jake could cross paths with the crew of the USS Protostar, perhaps as he investigates the shady truth behind the Mars Attack of 2385. Jake is also Starfleet royalty, like Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas) believed himself to be, and Jake Sisko would certainly be impressed enough by the young Starfleet Ensigns’ story to want to tell it.

The Cardassian tailor and shop owner would add pride and skillful deception to Star Trek: Prodigy

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s coolest Cardassian Elim Garak (Andrew Robinson) could supply Star Trek: Prodigy with a mature character capable of being both loyal and deceitful. If brought on board with Dr. Julian Bashir, the two could showcase their iconic friendship and set an example for the young main characters of Star Trek: Prodigy by depicting a healthy friendship despite personal differences. His previous position as a spy could teach the often conspicuous USS Protostar crew how to be a little more sneaky.

Chief Miles O’Brien

Star Trek: Prodigy would benefit from Chief O’Brien’s working man experience

Chief Miles O’Brien (Colm Meaney) first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation. O’Brien later made the move to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine when he was promoted from Transporter Chief on the USS Enterprise-D to Chief of Operations on the Deep Space 9 station. After his service on the station, O’Brien accepted a professorship at Starfleet Academy on Earth. On Star Trek: Prodigy, O’Brien would bring his working-class experience to the crew of the USS Prodigy. As a fellow engineer, Miles could teach young Starfleet hopeful Jankom Pog the tricks of the trade in Engineering.

The iconic Klingon star would give Star Trek: Prodigy both nostalgia and honor

Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) is an iconic character from Star Trek: The Next Generation who, like Miles O’Brien, became a series regular on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Although Worf was raised by humans and tries to honor his Klingon heritage, Worf’s Klingon problems often highlight his desire for peace. Worf could teach Star Trek: Prodigy’s young characters about grief and honor, as well as share important values of Klingon and human cultures. Star Trek: Prodigy’s Gwyndala (Ella Purnell) could find a mentor in Worf, whose natural blending of cultures supports her ideals of finding peace through similarities.

In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 7, Lieutenant Ezri Dax (Nicole de Boer) became the station’s Counselor. On Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Klingon Chancellor Martok (J.G. Hertzler) was a key player in the Dominion War. After his requested stay on the Deep Space 9 station, Martok received the role of Klingon Chancellor from an unwilling Worf, who originally won the role in combat against the Klingon tyrant Gowron (Robert O’Reilly). Chancellor Martok’s fierce loyalty and strategic genius could benefit the young Starfleet hopefuls to earn their stripes in Star Trek: Prodigy, and he could even personally train the battle-ready Mellanoid slime worm Murf (Dee Bradley Baker) in security measures like combat and strategic planning.

Star Trek: Prodigy could answer the mystery of Captain Sisko’s disappearance.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended with Captain Benjamin Sisko’s disappearance. Sisko’s ultimate fate remains unknown in the current timeline, with the only hint being his wife’s vision, in which Sisko states that he will return to her one day. Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 could reintroduce Captain Sisko and explain his whereabouts and what he’s been up to, answering a question that Star Trek has left largely unanswered since 1999. As a loving father to Jake Sisko (Cirroc Lofton), Captain Sisko could extend that counsel to Star Trek: Prodigy’s Dal as he grows into a stronger leader.
