After existing for nearly two decades, the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise gets the ultimate recap. Even though superhero movies have been part of Hollywood for several decades, the MCU timeline truly opened up the industry for studios to embrace the comic book genre, with its now 16-year-long franchise defining how the genre is perceived. Currently, the MCU is in the midst of Phase 5, which comprises the midst of The Multiverse Saga.

One of the next upcoming MCU releases is the Agatha All Along TV show, which will debut on Disney+ this September, featuring Kathryn Hahn once again as Agatha Harkness. The MCU star recently served as a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where her ties to the franchise came up in a fun way as she did a massive recap of the brand and its story through song. How The MCU’s Extensive History Helps & Hinders The Franchise

When it comes to the MCU as a whole, connectivity has always been one of the driving forces of the franchise across the big and small screens. Back when the MCU was first created in 2008 with Iron Man, the structure of the Phases was more digestible, as Marvel Studios had only a certain number of releases every year. However, with Hahn’s extensive MCU recap song, as well as proven with The Multiverse Saga, this has become a big challenge for the franchise.

What has hindered the MCU throughout the last few years is the overload of theatrical releases and shows debuting on Disney+, all meant to be interconnected as part of the overarching plot of The Multiverse Saga. The recent release roster also made it tricky for many audience members to keep up with every single movie and TV show that was coming out, even though some strong releases have also occurred in this era, bolstered by the franchise’s extensive and impactful history.

Luckily, since Bob Iger’s return to Disney, the franchise is prioritizing more actively quality for MCU releases while also scaling back on the amount of movies and TV shows launched every year. Time will tell how 2025 and beyond will result for the MCU as they get to the end of Phase 5 before kicking off Phase 6. Hopefully, the MCU timeline will be on the right track for the next few years as they get closer to finishing The Multiverse Saga.
