Actor Bette Midler is pressuring Disney to make the previously announced Hocus Pocus 3 as soon as they can, saying it would be beneficial to bring back the original cast once again. Hocus Pocus 2 came out in 2022, about 29 years after the original, bringing back the original actors for the Sanderson sisters, those being Midler as Winfred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, and Kathy Najimy as Mary. Because of their iconic roles and the success of the sequel, the upcoming Hocus Pocus 3 was confirmed to be in development.

However, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Midler said she wants Disney to begin ramping up production on Hocus Pocus 3 soon, citing the ages of all three actors as an important factor. The star explained how she hasn’t gotten any information about the sequel yet, before joking about how they should make it while all three Sanderson sister actors are still alive. I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-a**ing to the finish line [Laughs]. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!

When Will Hocus Pocus 3 Actually Come Out?

It Could Be A Few More Years Before It’s Here

The original Hocus Pocus was released in 1993, while the second installment didn’t arrive until nearly three decades later. Such a lengthy wait is unlikely to happen this time around, though, as the third movie was announced in June 2023 and has been in development since then. The most recent concrete update has come from writer Jen D’Angelo, who confirmed in October 2023 that its story was being worked on. However, there has been no news since about the status of the film.

Given the Hocus Pocus 2 cast is likely to return, the sequel is liable to come out sooner rather than later. At the same time, though, it’s been almost a year since any definitive news about it has been revealed, meaning it could be many more years until it finally comes to fruition. With lead actors like Midler in the dark about when production will begin, the film might not start filming until closer to 2025. If that’s the case, then the movie’s release could be stalled until 2026 or beyond.

However, these predictions could also be wrong, with Disney possibly trying to fast-track Hocus Pocus 3 for a sooner release date. Since Disney Halloween movies can be perfect for the holiday season, a release date around that time next year is possible should the company announce production soon. However, since Midler hasn’t heard about the next installment yet, it might not end up coming out next year after all, keeping its true release date up in the air.
