Another prediction from The Simpsons has come true 28 years later, with a joke from 1996 now reflecting something that’s actually happened. The Simpsons predictions have come true multiple times across the show’s decades-long run, such as Disney’s merger with 20th Century Fox and Donald Trump’s presidency. While not everything the show has depicted has aligned with reality, there are some events that have happened which the show has somehow managed to accurately foresee. Some of said events have been very specifically similar, while others were more broad.

Now, BBC has reported on a new prediction from The Simpsons that has come true, with the hip-hop group Cypress Hill performing at the London Symphony Orchestra on July 10, 2024. The one-night show fulfills a joke from the animated comedy in 1996, where the group believed they’d accidentally booked the location while impaired. However, their real-life show was very much done on purpose, focused around their 1993 album Black Sunday.

How Has The Simpsons Been Able To Predict So Many Events?

The Simpsons’ clairvoyance is nothing new, with the show having predicted some events through the many jokes sprinkled throughout the show. Another example is a group parodying magicians Siegfried & Roy, two magicians who use white tigers in their acts. The parodic versions of them were attacked by the big cat in their 1993 debut, something that happened to the real Roy Horn in 2003. An eerily specific prediction also happened in a 1992 episode, where New York Yankees player Don Mattingly was benched for long hair, only for it to really happen the year after.

While the show has had many accurate predictions like these, some of The Simpsons’ predictions have been wrong. This includes Big Ben getting altered to become digital, Lasik eye surgery making people’s eyes fall out after 10 years, and only the rich ever having access to computers. These inaccurate predictions show the series isn’t always going to accurately predict everything. Given the show has aired 768 episodes as of writing, it’s no surprise it’s been able to predict some events through the sheer amount of things that have happened up through season 35.

The Simpsons Season 34 Future Prediction Gag Actually Worked

The Simpsons took a risk by referencing the show’s ability to predict the future in season 34’s debut, but the subsequent Disney dig was a classic.

However, given things like Cypress Hill’s performance being very specific, it wouldn’t be shocking if even more particular jokes ended up becoming a reality in the future. Perhaps The Simpsons season 36 can predict even more future events that will become reality decades down the road. With so many episodes already out and many more to come, the series could be revealing even more about real-world events, even if it doesn’t know it yet.

The Simpsons is a long-running animated TV series created by Matt Groening that satirically follows a working-class family in the misfit city of Springfield. Homer, a bit of a schmoe who works at a nuclear power plant, is the provider for his family, while his wife, Marge, tries to keep sanity and reason in the house to the best of her ability. Bart is a born troublemaker, and Lisa is his super-intelligent sister who finds herself surrounded by people who can’t understand her. Finally, Maggie is the mysterious baby who acts as a deus ex machina when the series calls for it. The show puts the family in several wild situations while constantly tackling socio-political and pop-culture topics set within their world, providing an often sharp critique of the subjects covered in each episode. This series first premiered in 1989 and has been a staple of Fox’s programming schedule ever since.
