New set photos of the new Superman movie show the Man of Steel in trouble. Leading the first DC Universe movie is David Corenswet as Superman. Now that the movie is shooting outdoors, several new images and videos from the set of the production have come out. Among them are first looks at many characters from Superman‘s star-studded cast, as well as teases of the movie’s story. A new wave of set reveals teases danger for Superman.

On Twitter, @GreaterCLE and @urbanetics_ shared set photos and videos of David Corenswet’s Superman trapped in a sinkhole. There is no apparent sign of how Superman found himself there, but Corenswet’s Man of Steel can be seen struggling to get out. A heartwarming aspect of the Superman movie’s story seems to be the relationship the hero has with Metropolis citizens, as the new Superman set reveals appear to show the population of Metropolis helping Superman get out of the giant hole on the sidewalk.

Superman’s Weirdest Set Photo Sets Up A Truly Great Surprise Hero Reveal In Green Lantern DCU Theory

While it has been confirmed that Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner in Superman, the first DCU movie might have a secret second Green Lantern.

How David Corenswet’s Superman Could Have Fallen Into The Sinkhole

There Are Multiple Villains In James Gunn’s Superman Reboot

The set photos and video do not reveal how Superman came to be in such a precarious situation. However, based on the villains he will face off in the movie, that could be explained. When Corenswet’s Superman suit was officially revealed by DC, the background of the shot featured a giant ball of energy in the sky. Based on its colors, it seems like the Green Lantern Guy Gardner was fighting a powerful villain in the Metropolis sky.

Superman’s New Secret Character Will Rewrite The DCU Power Ranking In The Weirdest Way

A new secret character has seemingly been confirmed for James Gunn’s Superman after new set photos and videos, and the DCU player is very powerful.

That foe, whoever it might be, could have been responsible for putting Corenswet’s Superman in that situation. The most likely scenario for Superman getting trapped in that hole in the ground is due to Kal-El having been punched so hard by a villain, or perhaps hit by the same energy shown in the Superman suit reveal image, that he fell with extreme force and slammed into the ground. Superman would then struggle to free himself for a moment and then get out using his super strength and the help of Metropolis citizens.

Superman will be facing a few villains and anti-heroes in his DCU debut. Such characters confirmed for the film include Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, María Gabriela de Faría’s the Engineer, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., and a mysterious masked character in a black suit. With so many villains, Corenswet’s Man of Steel could have been fighting one or more of them before being sent down to the ground after a major hit. As filming continues, perhaps more clues to Kal-El’s predicament in Superman will emerge.
