Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead for Tower of God Season 2, Episode #1!

Tower of God has begun season 2 as one of the headliners of Crunchyroll’s Summer 2024 anime lineup. Bam’s adventures from season 1 are long gone, with a different focus as the world of the Toweris fleshed out even further. While characters from season 1 will return soon enough, new additions join the cast with Tower of God season 2, episode #2 and beyond, proving to be one of the most anticipated weekly anime release dates of the summer lineup.

The Tower of God anime debuted with season 1 on April 1, 2020, with a unique art style reminiscent of its characters leaping off the pages of the webtoon source material. However, the premiere of Tower of God season 2 has made strong impressions on reviewers so far, as it adapts part 2 of the saga, Tower of God: Return of the Prince, taking place several years after part 1.

Bam is no longer the same person fans may have known previously, and the realities of the Tower are only just beginning to settle in for the viewers.

Bam aka Jue Viole Grace in Tower of God Season 2

Tower of God releases new English-subbed episodes every Sunday, which can be streamed on Crunchyroll for international viewers. Season 2, episode #2 will be released on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 7:00 AM PDT (10:00 AM EDT). While an English dub is planned, Crunchyroll has yet to reveal the exact date for Tower of God season 2, so it’s reasonable to expect the first dubbed episodes to take at least two weeks to release, if not more.

Tower of God began its season 2 anime run on July 7, 2024, four years after the premiere of its inaugural season, with Crunchyroll viewers benefiting from its tentpole release directly after the initial Japanese broadcast. Viewers in Japan can watch it on Tokyo MX, BS11, GYT, GTV, KBS, and SUN networks, with streaming availability on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in other regions worldwide. With the anime and webtoon being as popular as they are, it’s no surprise that other series are frequently compared to it, with plenty of recommended manhwa for fans of Tower of God.

What Happened in Tower of God Season 2, Episode #1?

Prospective E-Ranker Ja Wangnam Meets a Dangerous Stranger

In a short prologue before the events of Tower of God season 2, episode #1, Bam is found by Hwaryun, while Yuri Jahad is shown searching for the disappeared irregular. In the following moments, viewers see a more desolate vision of the Tower, where its population can only reach the twentieth floor, needing a new screening exam to proceed further. This creates cramped, disparate living conditions, including an especially desperate lifestyle for Ja Wangnam, who is in debt for multiple exam fees, wishing to escape what’s rapidly becoming a slum in Tower of God season 2.

However, upon reaching the exam, Ja Wangnam meets a mysterious cloaked stranger alongside multiple formidable combatants, weighing his options about whether he can ally with them. Soon, a melee breaks out as the cloaked stranger fights other examinees, showing superior abilities with powers and an appearance similar to Bam’s, which is no coincidence. From Wangnam’s friendliness and willingness to cooperate, the stranger sees visions of Rachel and Khun, with it becoming increasingly clear that this stranger, decked out in FUG anti-Jahad gear, is Bam.

Ja Wangnam Learns More About Jue Viole Grace

Ja Wangnam in Tower of God Season 2

In Tower of God season 2, episode #2, Ja Wangnam encounters the next step in the exam process, including a cruel test that focuses on his weaker qualities, hurting his chances to pass. However, the sheer power imbalance with some other candidates will cause the overseeing proctor, in typical Tower of God fashion, to create exceptions on a whim. This prevents Wangnam from failing but also pushes the cloaked stranger further into the spotlight; while it’s clear that he’s Bam, he goes by the name Jue Viole Grace, and his FUG garb is anything but decorative.

Other questions will soon arise, such as about Wangnam’s red ring matching the symbol of Jahad and what that means in connection to the Tower of God plot in season 2, episode #2. Other examinees will be introduced in season 2, sparking questions about whether Tower of God’s new characters can avoid issues from season 1, with obvious friction with Viole’s allegiances. However, with the E-Rank screening exam seen as “the narrow gate to heaven,” as stated by Wangnam in season 2, episode #1, even this limited challenge already has plenty at stake in Tower of God.
