Warning! Contains spoilers for Presumed Innocent episode 6.

As the trial progresses in Presumed Innocent‘s episode 6, new details surrounding the murder emerge before the episode ends with a major cliffhanger. After the inception of the central trial in episode 5, Presumed Innocent episode 6 progresses in new directions, revealing several hidden layers of the case that were previously obscure. Presumed Innocent characters like Kumagai, Michael, Eugenia, and others show up in court to testify, which not only sheds new light on Rusty’s relationship with Carolyn but also discloses all the biases held by all the players involved in the case.

To his dismay, Raymond presents solid counters to every circumstantial piece of evidence he brings to the table. However, just when it looks like Raymond is making progress, the episode ends with a shocking tragedy.

Kumagai Reveals The Details Surrounding Carolyn’s Murder In Court

Kumagai Initially Does What Molto Expects Him To Do

As previously planned, Molto brings Kumagai to testify in court and reveal the grave details of the crime. Kumagai initially talks about the gory details of the murder, which is what Molto expected him to do. His description of the crime scene paints a horrifying picture of the conditions under which Carolyn died, encouraging the jury to not spare Rusty if the evidence points against him. However, to Molto and Guardia’s shock, Kumagai’s testimony does not go as planned when Raymond steps up to question him about his biases in the case and his feelings towards Rusty.

Kumagai’s Testimony Eventually Benefits The Defendants

Raymond’s Questions Make Kumagai Lose His Cool

When Raymond starts questioning Kumagai about his relationship with Rusty, he initially remains calm and talks about how things often get heated between prosecutors and forensic specialists like him. However, when Raymond pressures him by asking him if he despises Molto as much as he hates Rusty, he cracks and makes it evident that he is biased towards hating Rusty. As a result, Molto’s plan of using Kumagai’s testimony to convince the jury that Rusty could be the murderer backfires.

Guardia later even confronts Molto for trusting Kumagai. Molto, however, remains defensive by claiming that bringing Kumagai to court was only the first step in his plan. As Guardia’s expressions suggest, he grows increasingly concerned about Molto’s plans and worries if he knows what he is doing.

Raymond Encourages Rusty & Barbara To Improve Their Body Language

Barbara Argues They Must Present Their Authentic Selves

After the first day of the trial, Raymond meets Rusty and Barbara and asks them to put up more positive body language in court. He encourages Rusty to shield Barbara from the press when they approach her outside the court to convince the jury that he cares about his wife and could not have been the killer. Barbara, however, disagrees with this approach and believes that putting up a fake image of their relationship in front of the world might only make matters worse. She assures Raymond that she needs to be her natural, authentic self instead of presenting a facade that most people will not buy.

A Forensic Pathologist Reveals How Meticulous Carolyn’s Murder Was

The Pathologist Helps Confirm Why Rusty’s Skin Cells Were Found Under Carolyn’s Nails

After Kumagai, Molto also brings a forensic pathologist for testimony, hoping that he will be able to rectify the damage caused by Kumagai. The pathologist reveals that, even though Rusty’s DNA was found on several parts of Carolyn’s body, the ropes used to tie her up did not have any fingerprints or DNA. He adds that this is rare for violent crime scenes, confirming that the murderer was very meticulous with their approach. Raymond counters the forensic pathologist’s testimony by asking him if Rusty’s DNA might have ended up on Carolyn’s body when he kissed her.

The forensic pathologist agrees that might have been a possibility. Raymond even scratches his own face and asks the pathologist if some of his own skin cells might have ended up underneath his nails. The pathologist again agrees, which confirms that even though Rusty’s skill cells were found under Carolyn’s nails, it does not prove he killed her.

With this, Raymond is forced to take a step back from getting Reynolds involved despite the similarities between Carolyn and Bunny Davis’ murders.

Eugenia’s Testimony Reveals What She Knows About Carolyn’s Relationship With Rusty & Molto

Raymond Again Does An Incredible Job Of Defending Rusty

Even though Molto’s conversation with Eugenia does not go too well in Presumed Innocent‘s episode 5, she agrees to testify in episode 6. Eugenia talks about how Rusty’s behavior towards Carolyn was becoming increasingly obsessive and how she even warned him to be careful. Raymond counters this by first establishing that Eugenia never really liked Carolyn, proving that she has her own biases towards the case. Raymond then asks her if Carolyn ever filed a complaint against Rusty to their firm’s HR. Eugenia responds with a “no.

Raymond doubles down by asking Eugenia if Carolyn ever filed a complaint against anyone. This is when she reveals that Carolyn had complained about Molto to HR, which turns the tables against Molto. Molto attempts to defend himself by asking Eugenia if she has ever had a problem working with him. In response, Eugenia confirms she never shared the same complaints as Carolyn.
