DC’s 2024 Absolute Power event concludes this October with a massive Justice League battle that’s set to change the course of the DC Universe. With Amanda Waller at the peak of her powers, the stakes have rarely been higher for DC’s superheroes as they duke it out for the future of the DCU — and its entire Multiverse.

DC has revealed new details for Absolute Power #4, the final issue of the major event series by Mark Waid and Dan Mora. With a slew of variant covers and a synopsis that suggests major changes coming not only for the Justice League heroes but for the entire DC Universe, fans won’t want to miss this final installment of Absolute Power, which is available for preorder on July 19th before reaching shelves on October 2nd.

As the last remaining resistance fighters fight tooth and nail on the bloody island of Gamorra, Batman and Superman find themselves at bitter odds! Meanwhile, Amanda Waller has come too far to give up now, and is calling in reinforcements from across the Multiverse! The future of the DC Universe is up for grabs, and after this, things will never be the same!

Not only will this issue see Amanda Waller “calling in reinforcements from across the Multiverse,” it will apparently also include an unexpected face-off between Batman and Superman. Just because this is the final issue of Absolute Power doesn’t mean it won’t include the big-swing twists that make for consequential storytelling. The only question is what those consequences will actually be once the fourth issue reaches its conclusion.

The DC Universe’s Future Will Be Decided in Absolute Power #4

The Justice League Faces a Major Battle

Absolute Power officially launched on July 3rd — aligning with DC’s return to Wednesday release days — but the event has been building for years. Amanda Waller has organically been rising to prominence as a complex line-wide villain, allying herself with Failsafe and the Brainiac Queen to form DC’s “Trinity of Evil.” Her goal, achieved in Absolute Power #1 by Waid and Mora, is to rid metahumans and superhumans of their powers, and then to rid the world of superheroes altogether. The de-powered Justice League must form a resistance team to fight their way out of a bind with stakes beyond the battle at hand.

With rumors swirling about what DC’s future will look like at the conclusion of Absolute Power, this synopsis offers few-but-tantalizing details. Waller’s “calling in” of the DC Multiverse in particular stands out, suggesting that the consequences of this event will have a wider reach than just the “big seven” Justice League heroes who seem to be the series’ focus. Like classic DC “Crisis” events, it’s possible Absolute Power could conclude with a change to the DC Multiverse. In fact, the summary does promise that “the future of the DC Universe is up for grabs,” as well as that “things will never be the same!

Though these “promises” may sound like standard copy for the final issue of a Big Two event series, it can’t escape notice that a number of DC creative teams are concluding their runs in September, including Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo on Nightwing, writer Joshua Williamson on both Green Arrow and Batman and Robin, and others across the line. Absolute Power #4 may just be the launching point of a new era for the DC Universe; it certainly won’t end in a return to the “Dawn of DC” status quo. No matter how this Justice League battle concludes, DC fans will want to tune in to Absolute Power’s conclusion this October.

Absolute Power #1 is available October 2nd from DC Comics.
