Certain Superman details point to the big-screen debut of the DCU’s own Fantastic Four team, introduced precisely two weeks before the MCU’s The Fantastic Four movie. Despite being one of Marvel’s most famous teams, the Fantastic Four have been completely absent from the MCU’s 33+ movies. According to The Fantastic Four‘s known plot details, the reason why Marvel’s First Family hasn’t revealed itself yet is that they exist in an alternate universe parallel to the Avengers’. Only until Phase 5 is that the Fantastic Four might be able to cross paths with the MCU’s Earth-616.

Meanwhile, James Gunn’s DCU is rebooting the DCEU in a brand-new universe, where many superheroes are already established and known to the public. Metahuman teams such as the Creature Commandos and The Authority might already exist before heroes like Superman and Batman claim the title of the World’s Finest heroes. Still, famous superhero teams like the Justice League and the Teen Titans might be yet to assemble for the first time. And as Superman set footage suggests, one particular superhero team may beat them to the punch.

Superman May Be Introducing The DCU’s Version Of The Fantastic Four

James Gunn’s Superman Might Introduce A New Version Of The Terrifics

It’s confirmed that James Gunn’s Superman will introduce four DCU superheroes apart from Superman: Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho. Set footage suggests that these four heroes work together as a single team, as they all wear matching suits inspired by Mister Terrific’s comic-accurate costume. In the comics, Mister Terrific joins forces with Metamorpho, Plastic Man, and Phantom Girl and provides them with similar suits, naming their team “The Terrifics”. The Terrifics are a parody of Marvel’s Fantastic Four, as each member possesses similar powers to their Marvel counterpart.

Every Similarity Between The Fantastic Four And The Terrifics In The Comics

In almost every version of their story, the Fantastic Four venture into outer space and encounter a cosmic storm that showers them with energy, which grants each of them a specific superpower. Likewise, the Terrifics venture into the Dark Multiverse, and they possess similar abilities and personality traits. Mister Terrific is known for his genius intellect, like Mister Fantastic, whose super elasticity he shares with Plastic Man. Plastic Man, in turn, is just as immature as Johnny Storm. Phantom Girl’s intangibility resembles Sue Storm’s invisibility, and Metamorpho’s strength and shapeshifting abilities can be compared to the Thing’s rock-like body.

One Fantastic Four member has an iconic catchphrase but it was almost ruined by a bizarre decision in Fox’s 2015 Fantastic Four reboot.

There are significant differences between the Fantastic Four and the Terrifics, of course. For instance, the Terrifics travel to the Dark Multiverse long after gaining their powers, and they only do it because they wanted to stop a shady businessman from creating a portal. However, the similarities are clear enough to earn the Terrifics the nickname of “DC’s Fantastic Four”. Considering how Marvel has released a Fantastic Four movie almost every ten years since 1994, it’s a curious coincidence that the DCU’s Superman will introduce its version of the Fantastic Four in July 11, 2025 — fourteen days ahead of The Fantastic Four‘s July 25, 2025 release date.
