Warning! Preview pages ahead for Green Lantern #13!The Green Lanterns better beware Amanda Waller’s power, because she’s already planning moves to take on the powerful, peacekeeping organization. Absolute Power has arrived and metahumans across the DC Universe have been de-powered as Waller tightens her grip on the world.

Heroes and villains alike have had their amazing powers stolen by Waller’s insidious, all-Amazo team Task Force VII. With numerous DC icons stripped of their abilities, Waller is now leading the most powerful army on Earth. But what does she plan to do with this might and how is it putting her and Earth into conflict with the Green Lantern Corps?

Amanda Waller is Preparing for War Against the United Planets

In a preview for Green Lantern #13 by Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Romulo Fajardo, Jr., and Dave Sharpe, Hal Jordan has escaped Oa after a battle against the Green Lantern Corps, now under the control of the United Planets’ leader, Lord Premier Thaaros. Unfortunately, before Green Lantern could properly thank Star Sapphire for saving him, Hal was taken captive by Amanda Waller, who currently has the hero imprisoned in her secret prison on the island nation of Gamorra.

Waller watches on as Green Lantern is roughed up by his old villain Karshon, aka the Shark. Despite the torment, Hal hangs on, satisfied that for all the trouble he’s facing, Carol Ferris still loves him. After the Shark is done pulverizing Hal, Amanda addresses him. However, before Waller can properly explain the danger he’s in, Jordan begins putting pieces together. With all the alien tech at Waller’s disposal, Green Lantern correctly figures out that Waller is working with Thaaros and asks if she’s going to turn Green Lantern over to the United Planets.

Waller dismisses the idea and reveals she’s betraying her alliance with Thaaros, saying that by the time he comes around to collect Green Lantern, Thaaros will find “a container full of sharks”. Waller levels with Hal and tells him that Thaaros’ desire for Green Lantern’s new ring and power source has made her curious. She wants to know what powers his current Power Ring and threatens to torture him if he doesn’t give up the information Waller wants. Green Lantern, however, stands firm and refuses to tell Waller anything.

Waller Has Already Coalesced the DC Universe’s Powers

Amanda Waller spent months in the shadows, preparing to take down the Earth’s metahumans by any means necessary. She leveraged high-ranking politicians, manipulated the public, and even killed heroes to attain the power she needed. The end result was her becoming the head of the Bureau of Sovereignty, an independent agency that had unilateral power. With more sway than she ever had before, Waller began making the final moves necessary to bring the Earth’s metahumans to heel and, in her mind, finally attain order in the world.

Just gaining unquestionable political power wasn’t enough, but fortunately for her, Waller acquired two assets that made her plans a hell of a lot easier. Batman had created Failsafe, a powerful android that had been possessed by Bruce’s backup persona, Zur-En-Arrh. Batman defeated the robot and it was seized by Waller, along with six Amazos Zur-En-Arrh acquired. Waller brought Failsafe back to life and by happenstance, she acquired the Brainiac Queen, a living supercomputer shortly after. With Failsafe and Brainiac Queen by her side, Waller was ready to take the DC Universe by force.

Waller used the Brainiac Queen to create and spread manipulated AI videos that showed heroes attacking the public as part of a false-flag operation. The heroes took to the streets to clear their names and Waller unleashed Task Force VII to have the Amazos steal the powers of the most powerful heroes on Earth like Superman and Wonder Woman. One by one, metahumans were de-powered and detained by Waller’s forces. With Earth quarantined from space, the multiverse barricaded and the timestream sealed off, the DC Universe’s heroes officially had nowhere to run.

Waller is Willing to Fight Green Lanterns to See Her Goals Through

Thaaros Wants Waller to Bring Him Green Lantern DC

Waller and Thaaros’ relationship was revealed in the previous issue of Green Lantern where Thaaros made one thing perfectly clear: He was fine with Amanda Waller taking control of Earth, but in the end, he was the one in charge. But Waller has never been one to respond to threats or people who challenge her authority. But it was hard to imagine what she could possibly do to balance out the power dynamic with Thaaros. After all, he had turned the Green Lantern Corps into his loyalist army.

But that was before she launched Task Force VII. Now Amanda Waller has six of the most powerful robots in the world, who possess the powers of heroes like Martian Manhunter, the Flash, and even Green Lantern. These Amazos are stealing powers at a frightening rate and they’re only growing stronger by the second. In the first issue of Absolute Power #1, they even drained Doctor Fate’s helmet of its power and made Jim Corrigan unable to conjure the Spectre. Waller’s machinations have resulted in her creating the most powerful team on Earth and possibly the DC Universe.

Waller is all about control, which is why she’s not giving up Green Lantern to Thaaros. But she knows full well that Thaaros is going to come and collect Hal at some point. But now that she has androids that literally have Justice League-level power, she’s ready to take on Thaaros and any Green Lanterns that come her way. Waller isn’t stupid, she’d never put herself or her planet at risk if she wasn’t 1000% she could win. Clearly, Waller is sticking to her guns and is prepared to take on the Green Lantern Corps if they come knocking.

Waller Will Stop at Nothing to Control the DC Universe

Amanda Waller Plans Coming to Fruition DC

It’s hard to tell how far Amanda Waller’s plans actually go. It’s only recently been revealed that she has a Mother Box and that she’s building something. But whatever her end game is, this isn’t about just controlling the metahumans of Earth, it’s about making sure nothing can threaten Waller’s reign, and that includes the Green Lantern Corps. There’s no doubt that Waller has already thought several steps ahead and prepared for warfare from the stars. Hopefully, whatever happens with the Green Lanterns won’t make the world any worse than it currently is.

Green Lantern #13 is available on July 10th from DC Comics.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern is the name given to multiple enforcers of intergalactic justice in the DC Universe. Green Lanterns can harness the cosmic energy of willpower, and create unique spectral objects to face off against their enemies. Though some Green Lanterns have assisted with the Justice League, they primarily belong to the Green Lantern Corps.
