A new Superman movie theory based on the film’s weirdest set photo could lead to the surprise reveal of a second Green Lantern. James Gunn’s Superman reboot is the first movie in the new DC Universe, with the animated Creature Commandos series, which Gunn also directed and wrote, starting the franchise later this year. While David Corenswet’s Superman is the main star of the film, something Gunn has reiterated multiple times due to fans’ worries, the film will also see the DCU debut of multiple heroes and villains/anti-heroes.

Superman‘s expansive cast includes Nathan Fillion as the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern. Following the first Superman set photos, a theory that has become quite popular. Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl all sport the logo of Maxwell Lord’s LordTech in their superhero suits. That could be setting up the DCU’s Justice League International, as the team was managed by Lord, who will be played by Sean Gunn in the DCU, in the comics. Guy Gardner’s intriguing Superman story could get another chapter, as a new theory claims the movie could feature a second Green Lantern.

Superman Set Photos Might Tease A New Green Lantern

Guy Gardner Could Have Some Company In His DCU Debut

Superman and the upcoming series Lanterns are confirmed to use Green Lanterns that come from Earth. However, Guy Gardner could have the company of a very specific Green Lantern in his first DCU appearance. That is because new Superman set photos could be teasing the arrival of the Green Lantern Ch’p. On Twitter, @clevelanddotcom shared set photos of the DCU’s first movie that show Corenswet’s Superman in a peculiar scene. The Man of Steel can be seen talking to a squirrel in a glass box, which has led to a new Green Lantern theory.

It is far from uncommon for Hollywood productions to use real animals on set as references for CGI. That could be behind the new Superman set photos, with the squirrel in question being there to stand in for the later addition of Ch’p, a Green Lantern that is an alien squirrel from sector 1014. In the comics, Ch’p hails from the planet H’lven, which has a population of alien characters who look like either squirrels or chipmunks. The character has appeared in multiple animated DC projects, but Superman would mark Ch’p’s live-action debut.

Why Ch’p Would Be Perfect For James Gunn’s Superman

The Director Has Experience With A Certain Type Of Character

There is no director better equipped to handle Ch’p’s live-action debut than Gunn. The reason for that is simple: Gunn has experience and a successful track record of bringing talking CGI animals to life in live-action. As the writer of two live-action Scooby-Doo movies, Gunn showed early in his career that he understood that type of character. Then came the MCU, with Gunn making Rocket Raccoon one of the best heroes in the Guardians of the Galaxy and the whole franchise. After Rocket shined in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn using Ch’p in Superman would continue his streak.

Gunn’s experience with Rocket in the MCU shows that he can do right by Ch’p, using his experience in crafting a compelling talking animal in a superhero universe. Superman also seems to include at least one other major CGI animal in a superhero role, which would make Ch’p fit in relatively easily. Some Superman set videos show Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific following something to a pet store and later teaching a character to fly using dog treats. While Gathegi was acting by himself, that sure makes it look like Krypto the Superdog is in Gunn’s Superman.

Having Two Green Lanterns In Superman Would Create An Exciting DCU Trend

The DC Universe Is Giving The Green Lantern Corps The Respect It Deserves

If Ch’p is in Gunn’s Superman, then the DCU would be establishing a nice Green Lantern trend. After the DCEU failed to use the Green Lantern Corps properly, the new DC Universe could cement in just a few projects that the organization is here to stay, playing an overarching role in the shared universe. Both Superman and the upcoming Lanterns series would each introduce at least two new Green Lanterns to the DCU.

Fillion’s confirmed Guy Gardner and the possible live-action debut of Ch’p in Superman would add two Green Lanterns to the DCU, with Lanterns‘ confirmed debuts of Hal Jordan and John Stewart adding another two Green Lanterns. After the DCEU never used one of the major Green Lanterns and kept the team’s presence in the franchise to a cameo, the DCU can make sure that the Green Lantern Corps plays a key role. Ch’p in Superman would tell fans that the DCU will be using the full scope of the Green Lanterns, which would be exciting.
