My Lady Jane stars Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel share their hopes for a second season, with the former saying “Badass Jane can take it up a notch.” Based on the novel by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, and Cynthia Hand, Prime Video’s historical fantasy series re-imagines the life of Lady Jane Grey who is crowned queen and becomes the target of those who want her throne and her head. Bader and Bluemel lead My Lady Jane‘s cast alongside Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Jim Broadbent, Will Keen, Rob Brydon, Kate O’Flynn, Máiréad Tyers, Jason Forbes, and Christian Patterson.

In an interview with Collider, Bader and Bluemel shared their hopes for a second season of My Lady Jane. Though the stars haven’t been told anything about future plans for the show, Bluemel wants his character, Guildford, to continue supporting Jane and find a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Bade agrees, acknowledging that while their characters have endured a lot, Jane’s decision to save herself has put her family in danger. To save them, she might need to become even more formidable. Read their full comments below:

Bluemel: I’ve been told nothing. They won’t answer my emails. I would like to see Guildford continue backing up Jane and helping her out on her journey. That’s what Guildford’s there for. For lots of reasons, he’s a very different person at the end of the series than he was at the beginning, and finding his new lease on life and maybe even a glimmer of joy, here or there.

Bader: I think he could have some joy.

Bluemel: He’s earned it.

Bader: They’ve been through a lot, but at the same time, by Jane choosing to do what she does at the end with saving herself, she puts her family at risk. They are all still there with Crazy Mary. She needs to buckle down and figure out what she’s gonna do. She feels very responsible. I think badass Jane can take it up a notch.

My Lady Jane season 1 has a thrilling ending, revealing what happens to Jane and Guildford – but leaving a few major storylines up in the air.

Will My Lady Jane Season 2 Happen?

Everything We Know

Though the series has the potential to become a multi-season hit, My Lady Jane season 2 has yet to be officially renewed by Prime Video. Unlike the immediate success of Prime Video shows like Fallout, which already had a built-in fanbase, My Lady Jane needs more time to build an audience, which is typical in the streaming era as long-term viewership is more valuable than a big debut. With positive reviews and word of mouth, My Lady Jane could steadily increase its audience and score a season 2 renewal.

Following My Lady Jane‘s unexpected success, co-showrunner Gemma Burgess has already discussed the potential for a second season in an interview. Serving as co-showrunner alongside Meredith Glynn, Burgess says that a second season is “always a possibility,” though it has yet to be officially confirmed. Season 1 was seemingly designed for a continuation, as the finale leaves the story open-ended, and she also hinted that there are plans in place to continue the story if necessary.

Though Prime Video hasn’t labeled My Lady Jane as a limited series, the first season covered the novel’s entire story, but left the story open-ended with Jane and Guildford’s temporary escape from persecution. While this could serve as an ending, it wouldn’t be very satisfying considering Princess Mary’s continued threat. My Lady Jane season 2 could also adopt an anthology format and adapt another book from Hand, Ashton, and Meadows’ series focusing on different characters, such as Jane Eyre or Calamity Jane.

My Lady Jane season 1 is streaming on Prime Video and Freevee.
