One Piece season 2 seemed positioned to skip over a key story arc, especially in the wake of Netflix’s One Piece season 1 ending. Thankfully, a filming update about the show’s sophomore season has put One Piece fans’ fears to rest. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s bestselling manga series, Netflix’s live-action One Piece follows in the footsteps of the long-running One Piece anime series by translating the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates to the screen. As in the source material, the Straw Hats’ captain, Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), aims to become “The King of the Pirates.”

The Netflix series’ season 1 finale is far from definitive, offering plenty of mysteries to solve and high seas to explore in One Piece season 2. With filming on the sophomore outing having begun in June 2024, fans have already gained insight into some crucial season 2 details, including the title of the second season’s premiere episode. Needless to say, the announcement has quelled some viewers’ fears about the live-action One Piece potentially skipping over the manga and anime series’ Loguetown arc. Thankfully, Netflix’s One Piece is continuing its trend of remaining faithful to the source material.

One Piece Season 2’s Premiere Title Confirms The Loguetown Arc Will Happen

“The Beginning & The End” Is A Nickname For One Piece’s Loguetown

In the wake of One Piece season 1, long-time fans of the franchise feared that the Netflix adaptation would skip over the Loguetown arc. One of the live-action One Piece series’ showrunners said that wouldn’t be the case, but the reveal of One Piece season 2’s premiere title, “The Beginning & The End,” has confirmed Loguetown’s inclusion. According to One Piece lore, the city on the Polestar Islands gained the nickname of “the town of the beginning and the end” because the former Pirate King Gol D. Roger was both born and executed in Loguetown.

Situated in a convenient stretch of the East Blue, Loguetown is the go-town supply-run stop for ships — especially pirate ships — looking to take the Grand Line ocean route. However, the city is also the location of the anime and manga’s Loguetown Arc. The sixth narrative installment in the series, the Loguetown Arc concludes One Piece‘s East Blue Saga, which is probably why some viewers feared it was going to be skipped over. Originally, Loguetown was the site of Luffy’s first bounty, resulting in the Straw Hats’ clash with a powerful Marine captain and some familiar enemies.

That’s Not The Smoker Actor I Expected In One Piece Season 2, But I’ll Take It

Amongst the latest additions to the cast of the Netflix live-action One Piece show is the actor who will represent Smoker in season 2.

Why One Piece’s Loguetown Arc Is Too Important To Skip

Pirate King Gol D. Roger Has A Key Loguetown Connection

Loguetown is incredibly important for One Piece‘s overall narrative and world-building, making its self-titled arc one that can’t be skipped. In addition to filling in some Pirate King Gol D. Roger backstory, the Loguetown Arc also helps cement the city as a crucial Grand Line waypoint. Moreover, as the place where Luffy first realizes that there’s been a bounty placed on his head, Loguetown deepens One Piece‘s cast of characters’ dynamics and characterization. Plus, having the Straw Hats regroup in Loguetown is a smart way to kick off the action-packed One Piece season 2.

One Piece season 1 is streaming on Netflix.
