The violent Indian action movie Kill has garnered an incredible Rotten Tomatoes score. The movie, which was written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, is a Hindi-language outing that stars Lakshya as Amrit, an army commando whose attempt to prevent his girlfriend’s arranged marriage is derailed when the train he is riding is besieged by a violent gang, against whom he must fight back and help defend the rest of the passengers. Positive Kill reviews first started pouring in after the movie’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023.

Rotten Tomatoes has calculated an official Tomatometer score for Kill out of 54 different critics’ reviews. At the time of writing, the movie has a score of 91%, which has been officially Certified Fresh. While the score could fluctuate as more reviews are added throughout the first few weeks of the movie’s release, this certification confirms that enough critics have reviewed the movie that its positive score is statistically significant and unlikely to change drastically.

Kill Could Usher In A New Wave Of Indian Action Movies

The Movie Follows In The Footsteps Of Hits Like RRR

The overwhelmingly positive reception to Kill is no small feat. In fact, the movie is one of the highest-rated major releases currently in domestic theaters, beating out Hollywood blockbusters including A Quiet Place: Day One (87%), Despicable Me 4 (53%), Inside Out 2 (90%), and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 (47%). This could potentially lead it to perform well at the domestic box office over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, also benefitting from the hot weather in much of the United States driving celebrants indoors.

If it becomes a word-of-mouth hit, Kill could follow in the footsteps of recent Indian action movies such as 2022’s RRR (95%) and 2023’s Pathaan (84%) and Jawan (89%), all of which found crossover success at the domestic box office in addition to earning high Rotten Tomatoes scores. All three movies now number among the Top 6 highest-grossing Indian movies of all time. In addition, RRR followed its box office success with an Oscar win for Best Original Song.

If Kill finds similar success, it could help usher in a new wave of Indian action crossover hits. The 2024 Bollywood movie pushes the envelope in terms of violence and gore for an Indian release, and its potential success could see other filmmakers follow in its footsteps with more challenging entries in the action genre. By taking after the balletic violence of the John Wick franchise, these movies could continue to find domestic success, bringing even more Indian features to the international stage.
