Marvel’s “Uncanny X-Men #1” Trailer Teases A Thrilling New Era For The Franchise’s Flagship Title

Uncanny X-Men (2024) – Written By Gail Simone; Art By David Marquez, Color By Matthew Wilson; Lettering By Clayton Cowles

Uncanny X-Men (2024) promises a classic, yet distinct take on the X-Men as one of the forefront books in the new From the Ashes status quo. In the aftermath of the X-Men’s Krakoan era, the main X-titles are returning to more traditional-seeming X-Men stories, with Uncanny poised to focus on big superheroics with recognizable characters. However, Simone has also promised an emphasis on horror to match the spooky New Orleans setting and is also planning to introduce numerous new characters as the series progresses.

One of the best things that trailers can do for a comic is highlight the dynamism of the visuals on display, and this trailer is the perfect demonstration of how to do that. Series artist David Marquez is known for bright, flashy art, and adding a level of movement to his work in this trailer only emphasizes Marquez’s skill. Special credit here also has to go to colorist Matthew Wilson, who perfectly captures the explosive powers of characters like Jubilee and Gambit with aplomb. If fans weren’t sold on the art team before the trailer, they surely are now.

“Uncanny” Trailer Hints Writer Gail Simone Will Bring Her Favorite Heroes Along For The Ride

As Well As Teasing The Series’ First Villain

Mutant Monet St Croix as

This trailer also offers hints at where the series will go in future issues. A panel first seen at 0:23 shows what appears to be a redesigned Monet St Croix, also known as M, and Penance. Monet – one of the breakouts of 90’s X-Book Generation X – is a favorite character of Gail Simone’s, and this trailer seemingly all-but-confirms M’s involvement in the book. It’s still unclear whether she’ll be on the titular team full-time, but the book already features her former Gen X teammate Jubilee, so it’s not easy to imagine Monet fitting right into this title.

The trailer also might just show how the conflict in the first issue will be resolved. In it, the team comes up against the villainous Sadurang, who first appeared in 2019’s Simone-written Tony Stark: Iron Man #12. Later on, a shot shows Gambit holding what’s likely the ‘Eye of Power’, the second eye of Agamotto, which empowers Sadurang. If Gambit’s got hold of it, then Sadurang is done for. There’s nothing flashier for this new Uncanny X-Men team than fighting a literal dragon as their first villain, even if there’s little question how their fight will end.
